Default Corporal punishment in schools

Just interested to know the views of people on this forum about bringing back corporal punishment in schools, ie. the cane. Due to the deteriation of school discipline and respect for teachers. Assaults on teachers are on the increase; expulsions of pupils are on the increase...etc
Of course it is a contentious issue, but I would be interested on what peoples views are, and would it be a vote puller for UKIP if it was UKIP policy?

Personally I wouldn't want any other adult hitting my kid. If my kid is being a brat, suspend them and I will take care of making sure they don't do it again. If they do do it again, expell them. No messing around.

Any pupil attacks a teacher = instant expulsion.

Private schools should be able to offer want they want, including the cane.

If a headmaster of a state school believes in it, then I would want to be able to request they do not hit my kid, but have the right to suspend and expell if necessary.

Agree. Each school to be governed by the head and the board, to set thier own disciplinary method. Parents to have opt-out if corporal punishment in place in that particular school.

Interesting views, my own experience, was when I was about 12 years old, due to peer pressure I followed some other lads jumping on cars in the car park near to our school. Got reported to the headmaster, a bunch of us received one smack of the cane, I tell you it hurt ops:
But it taught me not to do that again and I never did. But if I did the same thing today, I might get suspended, which would result in missing my education, for a few days could play outside with my mates, probably gain a bit of a reputation for being a rebel, maybe even become more popular because of it....etc etc
My point being, what would hurt me more, long term. One smack of the cane or suspension; expulsion?

If you were suspended and my kid, the last thing you would be doing is playing with your mates.

You would be truly sorry for shaming the family name and would probably wish a smack is what you got. You would certainly never do it again.

If I thought I could trust other adults not to abuse their position of trust, then I wouldn't have any concern. However, the tale my father told me of how sadistic some teachers were convinces me that parents are the ones who should be handing that punnishment out. As I said, if you do feel you can trust all teachers, then you can sign you kid over to their mercy.

What if you received notice from the Headmaster that due to your sons behaviour he was to receive the cane but that punishnent could only be enforced with the parent present.
If I remember correctly there were rules where a headmaster could only lift the cane up to a certain angle ie. the cane could not be raised further back than the shoulder, therefore less pain and more accuracy.
But I do agree, that some headteachers could abuse this, but with guidelines and parent present, could minimise this.
I believe it was only Headteachers who were permitted to give the cane to pupils, that was in the early seventies. I don't know what the rules were before that.

It's an option.

Could you watch as another adult hit your kid? I'd rather take that responsibility myself!

If it was from a headteacher and I was present, yes. As I, as the law stands at present, cannot discipline my own child using corporal punishment. If my understanding is correct, I believe you can smack your own child as long as there is no mark or bruising, so I'd probably use a feather :!:
