Alex,

Youthkip might want to get in touch with a student society at Royal Holloway College called the UK Independence Society (UKIS). Here is their website:

http://www.ukis.org/

Apparently the society isn't technically a part of UKIP but it does have links with UKIP's Runnymede and Weybridge Branch. Maybe they might be interested in affiliating to Youthkip. At the very least, some of their members might be interested in joining. The society looks fairly active and well-established. Might be worth a phone call, anyway.

Britons Youth ends at 49
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1770
Does this mean the Youthkip age limit should be extended to 49 years old :?:

All the electoral people and polsters seem to group the 'young end of the electorate' in the 16-24 catagory - you can be admitted to the electoral roll from the age of 16 but will not be issued with a ballot card until 18 attained.

However, as we are probably 4 years away from the next election I would want to be enlisting anybody over 14 to keep them onside.

The Youthgroup is crucial to opur future plans... only 40% of the 18-24s voted last time and the figure is falling.

Whilst researching my Democratising Democracy piece I got side tracked for a couple of days on the falling electoral roll... the evidence is that the young aren't taking an interest because :-

A) they don't understand much about politics and the parties and B) to make life difficult for them they can't see any difference between the three parties.

If we can get our act together amongst the young and offer a vibrant alternative to the others then in their segment of the electorate we are in a two horse race us versus a big party that has three different names.

Research also suggests that if voters abstain in three elections then they never vote - it is not a part of their lifestyle.

Thus we are starting with 60% of 18-24s not voting and their numbers will not only increase but spread through the age spectrum as they get older.

Oddly enough the other big grouping that dont vote are women over 55, with 67% of them abstaining... perhaps UKIPMAN can use his prowess to attract them to our party.

Here's a challenge for YouthKip. I went to an unmarried mothers hostel in Crawley today. 12 rooms and not one on the electoral roll. Reasons? Solutions? :?

Reasons - state is seen as an enemy and a cash-cow nothing more, nothing less. If you told them there would be no more child benefits at all then they would soon register to vote if only to punish the politicians for taking the benefit away.

Largely they do not understand, and do not care about modern societys deep nosedive, they actually like it. They like Big Brother, they like eastenders, and they like being able to get drunk ever night. They like easy money, and don't mind working boring jobs to get it. In effect, so long as the criteria for a decent life are met then they don't aspire to more, mainly because from a young age they are taught not to bother to aspire to much. They are allowed to dream of becoming the next Britney Spears but they aren't taught how to funnel that side INTO phpbb_anything productive.

I know, because I have lots of freinds meeting that description.

I agree Alex, it reminds me whilst listening to a radio programme 20 years ago and the interviewer was asking a young single mother about her finances and how is she going to cope. Her reply was to sign on the dole.
The interviewer asked her where does the money come from and her reply was "the dole"
After asking a couple more times, she then replied "the government"
When the interviewer asked her where does the government get the money from, she replied "the dole"
When the interviewer finally told her it was from the tax payer.
She replied "no it doesn't, it comes from the dole"
