Default UKIP Forum

For a large part of the election I did not have the time to take part in the Forum. Unfortunately since returning I have noticed that it seems to have taken over by Lib-Dems, BNP, Veritas, Tories etc etc. The Forum is not what it was.

Many in UKIP agree with me.

John this is an open forum with lots of differnt opinions, As i have said previously if you just had a forum with only UKIP members agreeing with everything it would be a very boring place indeed

however although there are varies people from diffent parties the majority of people here i belive are UKIP members

remember that in politics there is more than one political party, If the concensious is to have a UKIP only forum then one can either be created by a UKIP member or if this one is turned INTO phpbb_ukip only the rest of us would have to leave

I think Anthony is addressing this problem with things like the race and culture sticky. I don’t know if you have ever gone on the Veritas forum but it is very heavily moderated and restricts freedom of speech IMHO. I did not like the race issue taking over all of the topics but like I said Anthony has this in hand, as for the other parties posting here I think it creates healthy debate and makes us strengthen our arguments.

This was never going to end up as a UKIP only forum, to do that, you'd need a members area which (possibly) Anthony is minded to do. As for the content, running up to election and before we had some very clear things to discuss - right now I think the party is drifting and unclear of its future, and this is reflected in the broadness of posting.

As for BNP and the rest, well, providing (and this applies to Ukippers to) they behave, they can only add value - if they question UKIP values and policy and cause us to reflect or amend our arguments, surely this can only be a good thing?

Also, at the end of the day the forum is the posters, you don;t have to respond to issues or people which/who don;t push your buttons, equally you are as free as the rest of us to start a topic.

I think its good we have other parties on here, as it sharpens our debating skills that we need for hustings meetings. Furthermore, unlike the EU, we allow a broad diversity of opinions, and the sticky about race/culture is basically a good idea as it keeps the more "sensitive" discussions there

However, there is widespread ignorance, and many UKIP members I've spoken to don't know it exists, but are keen to get involved.

Maybe each branch should have a link on its website?

My preference would be to do away with the avatar on each member's profile. I'm not sure it adds anything, other than perhaps giving the impression that the member is somehow speaking on behalf of that party (which they most certainly aren't). That way, you won't be left with the impression "that the forum is being overun by the BNP" (or whatever), but that it's simply an exchange of individual views.

Can I point out to you that before joining this forum I read the 'BNP go home' thread in White Cliffs, etc, and the OPer wanted people to be open about their affiliations. If I posted without the avatar people might think I'm UKIP. By having the avatar we are being open and honest, as requested on said thread. I'm complying with the previous request.

The avatars were included to allow people to display their party allegiance. If they don't want to use them, they don't have to.
