I trust others saw the brief interview with Neil Kinnock commenting on the French and Dutch results yesterday.
I can't remember most of it but do recall his opinion of the result as being a "triumph of ignorance" because they had not expended enough effort on explaining the benefits of the Treaty to the poor, uninformed masses. Forgive me if I am wrong, but hasn't the EU been tirelessly throwing out this propaganda for the last few months, all one sided. How much more did he want pushed out to people? He was asked if the more people knew, the more they would want to reject it, he brushed it off with "that's the risk you take but...." Am I being sensitive or is he just plain dismissive of Joe Public's ability to comprehend politics?

Interesting what being given a job as a commissioner, and a few hundred thousand pounds in the bank can do for your principles.

It is patronising of those corrupt and lying politicians to dismiss the peoples' rejection of Europe as 'ignorance'.
People know all too well what Europe is - when they lose their jobs, when factories and companies close and the jobs are moved to Europe. People know all too well what Europe is when European regulations stifle all our lives. When people are prosecuted for using Imperial weights and measures in market stalls, and when trawler skippers are fined £1000s for landing their catch an hour late due to the weather delaying their landfall. People know all too well what Europe is when traditional English building materials like thatch are banned by Europe, or childrens' swings are to be scapped because they are 20 inches too big for the European regulations. People know all too well what Europe is when the European accounts will not be signed off by auditors because of corruption, bribery and theft. When European MEPs ban cameras from their parliament because they filmed them filling in bogus expense claims, or when whistleblowers are sacked for exposing European corruption. European rules apply to the British but the French and Germans ride roughshod over the Euro 'Growth and Stability Pact' and tear it up, or that Greece lies about its budget in order to enter the Euro and no sanctions are taken against them. It is patronising in the extreme for politicians to dismiss the views of the people, when they fully comprehend the corrupt character of Europe and want out of it. No decent person in their right mind who had their eyes open would tolerate this Europe for one moment.
