I agree with you algypug. I am now convinced there are a few people whose mission is to damage UKIP or even Veritas. There were rumours that certain people were Tory plants all along. The more I see, the more I think that is true.

If two join together and produce a result bigger than the sum of the two individuals, this is called (IIRC) synergy.
What's the opposite effect called? 'cos its happening here. Again. It's shameful that UKIP leadership cannot let the past die. An extended olive branch would have had a far more positive effect. Perhaps it is understandable though, that at this time of difficulty for UKIP, the cabal (I thought I'd use the C word as it hasn't been heard for a while!) don't want to have 'troublemakers' back in the party. |

Accusation and counter-accusation, bonkers press releases from Damian Hockney, Nigel Garage - ah, how this all takes me back! It seems like only yesterday, but I suppose it must all have been as far back as, oh, February.
Only two points: 1) Regardless of who said what to whom when, and regardless of the motives of those involved (which might be wholely admirable, who knows?), it was a phenomenal cheek for Veritas to rename their group Veritas-UKIP without having reached a specific, clearly-stated agreement with UKIP that they could do so. 2) I do think UKIP should be open to the idea of co-operation with Veritas where possible, and that we should warmly welcome Veritas members (barring a handful of exceptions) who want to come back to UKIP. I can understand a lack of enthusiasm for letting Robert Kilroy-Silk or Damian Hockney back INTO phpbb_UKIP, but what's wrong with Peter Hulme-Cross? My understanding was that he joined Veritas anyway mainly to preserve the unity of the team on the London Assembly. Why are we so vehemently against the idea of him rejoining our party? I truly don't understand that. I'd suggest that a more sensible stance might be "Welcome back, old mate." |

I think that there is an open invitation to Veritas members and supporters, but not to the ex-UKIP Veritas leadership. There are far too many UKIP members who would oppose such a move.
Also, I would be very unhappy about a direct association of UKIP and Veritas. Veritas clearly staked its territory as immigration and ended up looking like BNP-lite. The last thing that UKIP needs to repair its image is to ally with such a party. |
