You may not understand this, but the guy has probably gained a lot of respect from the public by the simple process of being honest about his sexual identity. Folks respect honesty in such matters.
I don't think so.

I think discretion is a better word.

Okay. A guy is who he is, he is able to accept it, why can not others?
I do not understand this 'discretion' requirement.
If he sees no need for discretion (and why should he, he appears happy with who he is) why should others?
After all, his activities do not impinge on their way of life do they?

Oh come on. We have a parliament full of gays, do you really think they would get respect if they turned up in feathers, make up and high heels.

Horses for courses. If he wants to dress like a floosie in private, when he is not likely to be called out on a high profile case OK, but flaunting his sexuality in front of his men, the public and the criminal fraternity is simply not on.

This is always a problem, the warrant card ruins the lines of my little red number.

We are not talking about how MPs dress while they are working, we are talking about how coppers dress when they are not working. No parallel whatsoever.

He was not flaunting his sexuality in public. He was being himself in a club.
As to flaunting in front of his men - that is a gross distortion of the truth.
As I understand things, there was no problem until other officers went in to get him. What did they expect in a gay bar anyway?

I knew you'd be relieved to know that which is why I replied as soon as I could.

Don't like to keep a guy in suspenders.

Sorry, suspense.
