Neither, I would say. The thing is that we have people on the telly so infrequently that we expect great things every time. It is an unreasonable expectation, even more so when we consider how little practice our people have.

I would say that she did a fine job; she didn't say anything stupid and she didn't look incompetent. And she was on the telly. That is what UKIP needs at the moment. We have solid policies that the other parties won't copy, so the best thing that we can do is just be calm, reasonable and electable. Once people accept us as no longer being a fringe party, then they may start to look at our policies more seriously.

Desperate Housewives on the other channel was quite amusing.

Dimbleby is biased, so anyone who is anti EU will never get a fair crack at the whip.

It was very boring, as usual.

another excuse most of the questions were aimed at labour and Dimbleby handed them to others

basically she did get questions, are you telling me UKIP can only talk well on the one issue, plus she didnt put herself forward enough as Tom mentioned

She was fine. She answered sensibly to a set of BORING questions. She could have droned on for hours like your guy, but thankfully she didn't. Shame it was left until right at the end before a decent question on voting fraud came up. Blunkett getting in a strop and being told of by that women in the audience was class.

Petrina did as well as she could in bad circumstances. You can't always artificially drive the debate in your direction. Dimbebly failed as host, it's as simple as that.

Granny Plunket thought he WAS on Desperate Housewives - and to think he gave up a night of speed dating to appear.

[SNIPPED - that's a bit too personal! ]

As for Petrina - I thought she did extremely well. Got in a couple of good points without appearing rabid, held her own against Plunket, (women have to or he'll have his hand up it), and I am sure won a lot of votes from the blue rinsers who would see her as a more humane, (human), version of Maggie.

Bear in mind a scottish gig was always going to be tough for UKIP

Petrina didn't do badly, but she didn't do well either, and although the questions were mostly dull and the Question Master did give Blunkett far too much time, she must take much of the responsibility for her under-performance herself. Nicola Sturgeon did better, but in my view the only really strong performance came from Michael Ancram. I was particularly impressed with his answer on the Pope question (though he wimped out a bit, and it was left to a woman from the audience to point out the obvious - that the way to avoid getting or passing on sexually transmitted diseases like AIDS is to obey the Catholic prohibition on sodomy, adultery and fornication).
