UKIP also believes that there is now considerable scope for voters to decide on any of the issues themselves, as in Switzerland and in many states of the USA. As a first step towards this form of Direct Democracy, UKIP would pass legislation allowing for 'Popular Referendums' at all levels of local government on issues of concern to local residents when the required number of signatures has been collected on a petition.

Straight of the 2005 manifesto.
If, during a period of 6 months, 5% of the national electorate signs a petition demanding a referendum on any matter of policy, then the government is obliged to hold such a referendum and be bound by its result.12

12We suggest that the threshold of 5% is sufficiently high to prevent misuse yet low enough to be achieved when major national interests are at stake. Voters’ rolls could be used for verification. Regarding the terms of the referendum, a majority of a minimum of 40% of the electorate may be deemed sufficient to cause the government to legislate for the change demanded.

thank you i thought it was 5% but wanted to check with someone who would know

(its great im getting bits and peices from the manifesto at the same time)

But i digress what system do you have in place if for example aftger withdrawal of the EU during the transition period someone plonks enough signatures on the desk of number 10 for a referendum to rejoin is it written somewhere that rejoining is not a possiblily or would the referendum be held and if then a yes rejoining as it would be the will of the people (im not stating this as fact im just checking if you have covered that particular base)

I don’t know the answer but I think if enough people wanted to call a referendum it would happen and fair play, but I suspect they would loose as the majority would have voted UKIP in to power.
By the way I don’t think the manifesto is a big secret anymore its 19 pages and probably to big to post here. It has some radical tax policies and that’s about it
