Quote:
But Mr Flight - a former Tory front-bencher and one of the architects of the party’s James Review of public spending - made clear he would rock the boat, if forced to. Asked if he intended to stand at the election, he told BBC Radio 4: "I do, yes."

He said: "There’s a question of principle. The issue of candidates has to be done in a proper constitutional way. To do otherwise would expose Michael [Howard] to attack."
Sound like a call to this guy is essential!

According to our candidates list on the website Andrew Moffat is standing in Arundel, ( ex national GFront member etc) I thought he was standing in Beaconsfield. That aside would he be willing to step aside to allow a top class candidate like Howard Flight in. We don't want or need any nasty internal squabbles, we can leave that to the Tories.

In my opinion to propose huge cuts in public expenditure will heamorage votes outside the diminishing Tory heartlands. From a Tory perspective Flight was very stupid to both say the things he did and to assume they would not be reported. An absolutely massive gift to Labour. He was merely making promises he could not keep to the small constituency that expects the Tories to run the country for their benefit alone. I am surprised Howard has not had him shot.

For UKIP - on the one hand there is an outside chance he would be elected in Arundel based on his profile in the constituency - on the other it would send a message to the country that UKIP is no more than the Tory party with knobs on. Quite a difficult decision - without much enthusiasm I would take the chance of getting one man elected. Pragmatism overtakes principle in this case.

All that would happen is that UKIP would split the Tory vote, and maybe let Labour in whilst reinforcing the view that UKIP isa home for disenchanted Tories

I think a vital question needs to be asked before we all go over the top. Is he committed to getting out of the EU?

addendum - Sorry! I missed kernow's post. We should definitely approach him.

I met Howard Flight a couple of years ago. GREAT GUY.

I inherited a client, (pre UKIp days), who was chairman of East Reading Conservatives, he encouraged me to network including joining his local small business club.

We used to have MPs come and speak to us, most of them in post dinner chat were vacuums - unable to chit chat without a spin doctortelling them what to talk about.

One thursday, eve of good friday, we had Howard Flight booked to speak.

he had been in parliament that day and there were horrendous traffic problems with people trying to get out of London for the holiday weekend.

My mate was outside having a cigar when a beat up olld renault screeched to a halt in front of him, Howard had the map between his teeth, desperate to find out if he had reached his destination.

Spoke authoritivly on the economy and world situation, all of which has come to fruition and was exceelent in the post meal chat.

Whilst I'm about it, my client pressed me INTO phpbb_buting two tickets to a dinner where William Hague was o be the guest of honour, it was just after he had returned from honeymoon wih the lovely Fion.

My mate and I where sat at a table with the Institute of Directors. hagur entered the room to a standing ovation - as he passed through people were glad handling him.. the chairman of the IoD kept hold of his had and drew him to our table and introduced all his members. He didnt know me and my companion so he passed us by. Eventually he got to his own seat and started to engage Hague in conversation.

Wiliam put up his hand to stop him, walked round to John and myself and held out his hand. "we were'nt introduced, I'm William Hague" he said.

impressed? I'll say.

After the meal he did 20 mins stand up comedy on when he first fought an election - in yorkshire just after the miners strike, 20 mins party doctrine and 20 mins taking questions from the floor THREE AT A TIME.

One pillock from Newbury got a question - chance to question your own party leader and what did he ask?

"When we return to power, will you stop people riding bikes on the pavement!!!!!!!!!!!"

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!

Hague turned this INTO phpbb_a question on law and order.

Most accomplished speake rI've ever heard.

Best PM we never had, and the reason why? We dont vote for bald men.

Neither do we vote for scots( Blair has hidden his scottish roots) the welsh - Kinnock had no chance - even if she had dumped Neil- or jews--

We've only had one PM from each catagory.

I couln't care less about splitting the Tory vote. Tories = Labour, so all I am interested in is having UKIP MP's, end of.

liberal dems are actually second in this constituency not labour. it would have to be some split to allow labour in. the tories have a 29.9% majority approx 13,000.
