With a membership of 27,000 and the votes totalling 17,157 that equals a turn out of approx 63% roughly the same as a general election. I thought that Ukip members were a lot more dedicated than that, especially with the recent troubles we’ve had.

Hate to make it look even worse, but don't forget we all had 5 votes each!

Tis the same everytime apparently, only a few people bother in the NEC elections, because they don't see them as important. Scares the hell out of me, especially when we have just had all the grief over leadership.

It just goes to show you that this internet world we live in, is distorted when compared to reality. What you see here is not the opinion of the general membership, nevermind the population.

I didn't vote because the ballot papers weren't numbered. A silly protest I know, and I will have no room for complaint if I don't approve of NEC decisions.

Roughly 3,500 members voted in total. That is a 13% turnout.

40% of people voted for Linda Guest, so congratulations to her!

All the more reason to vote! If genuine people don't ote, then the troublemakers have even more chance of causing grief!

Shame, Shame on you! 8)

The most important thing, is to make sure we don't have the numbering issue again!

It wasn't an easy decision, but in the end I decided not to take part because I do not want to condone such poor electoral practice from the party. There is no way to ascertain whether it has been a fair election or not. With so few votes cast it would only have taken 100 bogus ballots to swing the election.

From the appalling turn out (and remember this is a postal ballot!), I would say that the majority of members think that the NEC is an irrelevance. This very much harps back to my "where do we go from here?" document - what is the point of the NEC at the moment?

You know, I think the big issues with this whole vote are.

1) The numbering thing, wide open to abuse. Though going on the results, I think we were spared that abuse.

2) Putting it in the magazine. I hate to say this, but I really doubt many people read the magazine. It is very dry and I have had various members tell me it is boring. I can quite imagine a lot of people just putting the mag aside, or throwing it waya, without knowing there was a ballot paper inside.

3) People have no idea what the NEC does. The only time were have heard about it over the last few years, is when it has been leaking stuff to Cole. Hardly a glowing advert!

4) There was a hell of a lot of candidates this year. That was a good sign for me, but could people be bothered to wade through pages of information to make a choice? Not sure what you can do about that though!

5) The sheer hassle of having to rip pages out, pay for a stamp and envelope, post it. All things that will put people off.

I would like to see an online voting system, where members can logon and vote.

Otherwise the ballot paper should be a seperate item, not in the mag, and be as easy to send back as possible. Like some of the catalogue mailings, that you fill out, fold then bung in the post box. Freepost if possible, as I think it is a small price to pay to have a well elected NEC.

Well I voted and I'm pleased to say that two on my list came in the 5 selected.

I didn't vote in the last NEC election because I laid the magazine to one side and forgot, but felt it important this time.

Not a bad result overall. I'm glad Whittaker is in, but I'm disappointed that our former acting leader Craig Mackinlay didn't quite make it. I voted for him in the 1997 leadership election, which he lost, and I still think he is under-appreciated.

Well done to Linda Guest, though. That is an impressive result.

Up to 5 votes each. Some may have voted for fewer than 5 candidates, even for just one, so perhaps the turnout isn't quite as bad as it might appear.

I don't like the fact that the Eastwood and Scholefield votes aren't given. That does not give the appearance of an open and fair election. Who knows, perhaps they would have come in the top five! But if not, publishing their totals wouldn't have hurt anyway.
