Default ID Cards: latest expensive excuse to meddle in peoples lives

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/4252919.stm
Quote:
UK Independence Party leader Roger Knapman rejected the idea that ID cards would help in fighting terrorism and said they were the "latest expensive excuse to meddle in peoples lives".

"As for helping to tackle immigration and asylum problems, the government has yet to explain how issuing ID cards will help when it openly admits it has no idea of the true number of illegal immigrants already in Britain."
That's more like it! Keep up the good work and keep us in the media.

It's good to see there is one party quick to respond and defend the rights of the British.

The sound of silence from ALL the other parties is disgraceful.

Yes, well done Roger Knapman! That's more like it!

The response from all the other parties is feeble. According to that BBC report, just 64 MPs voted against the ID cards bill. 19 were Labour and 11 were Tories. Even if all 34 of the others were LibDems, which I doubt, that is still a very half-hearted effort by the Lib Dems given that they have 55 MPs in all. At least 21 LibDem MPs failed to vote against ID cards.
