The tourism figures for last year were released yesterday.
The figures for those coming to the UK were interesting. They included 1,050,000 'tourists' who visited Britain from the new accession states in the last 8 months. Are we meant to believe that there was an unsatisfied urge to visit Britain from these countries that was only realised when they joined the EU? There are no figures for how long these tourists stayed here or indeed if they are still here, but 9% - 90,000 stated on entry that they intended to stay here for more than three months.... 13 weeks holidays!!!??? I thought employment conditions over there were poor, yet these people obviously have very generous employers to allow them over three months holiday!!! As Jim Royale would say...my a**e!!!
