Deputy Mayor and Bodmin Town councillor Lance Kennedy Joins Veritas

Lance G J Kennedy, aged 53, Married, Born Newton Abbot S.Devon, living Bodmin.
Joined Devon and Cornwall constabulary 1969, served in all over South Devon and North and South Cornwall. Departments Traffic, CID, Tactical Weapons, Communications, Community, Licensing.
Retired 1997 worked for KernowDoc, Inland Revenue and Restormel Borough Council.
I have just resigned from the North and East Cornwall Patient and Public Involvement Forum as Chairman since Dec 2003. Currently Town Councillor and Deputy Mayor Bodmin.

A former member of UKIP who felt that a glorious opportunity had been wasted and welcomed the chance to join Veritas as a supporter of open Government which is led from the top and driven from the bottom. I am certainly not anti European and feel that we can all live independently whilst sharing culture and trade to the advantage of the citizens of each sovereign nation.

I am however opposed to being led by and dictated to by any group whose intention is the country of Europe.

We all know and learn from history but rarely do we have the chance to create history, that is the opportunity we now all have, to have a party that represents the people with truth and honesty.
Lance
It isn't very clear whether he resigned from UKIP to switch to Veritas, or whether he had left some time ago.

Does anyone know how many councillors we have now?

That statement makes no sense.

How about integrity?
Has RKS given up his E.P. seat yet - the one he got because one of ours stood down to let him have it?

Has Hockney givn up his asembly seat yet, nd returned it to UKIP - this being the honourable thing to do should a member leave the party - Hockney sid so himself a couple of years ago.

Truth? Pah! Even the tan is fake! I'm waiting for the toupee ... canna be long now. >evil grin<

Intbel: not gonna happen, I'm afraid. Politics is about power (as if you didn't know that, heh), and thus Veritas are not going to give those seats up; no way. Those seats are a great launchpad for them.

The thing is Bryan. Vertias have made a huge thing about straight talking, the truth and being fresh and new in politics.

Have you honestly seen any sign of that so far? Not from where I am sitting! They are playing all the same old tricks and games as the old parties. Power at all costs is what got this country INTO phpbb_the mess it is in now, I have no time for it. I have been called gullable and naive more times than I care to mention, for not wanting to be a part of that.

I would rather be gullable and naive than a power hungry career merchant!

I have to say I am watching the Veritas sitation with interest now. There are a number of personalities that will clash in my opinion. Look at the way Martin Cole ripped INTO phpbb_Micheal Harvey on his blog. Now they are senior members in the Veritas team.

I also notice that the UKIP uncovered site is still being maintained. Due to Coles senior position in the party, this could be seen as intent to wage war on UKIP still. I thought Veritas were not going to do that.

Straight talking?

About a year ago ago I seem to remember reading on the UKIP website that we had a total of about 30 councillors (or was it 35?). This presumably included councillors at all levels - district, town, parish, county and whatever.

Therefore if we've lost two to Veritas, I assume we still have about 30 or so.

Having a few local councillors is no big deal. Even Mebyon Kernow (the Cornish Nationalists) have half a dozen or so. However, having lots and lots (as the Green Party are beginning to) can be a serious launchpad for winning seats at Westminster.

Incidentally, of UKIP's 30+ councillors, some won their seats standing for UKIP and some are defectors from other parties. Should councillors defecting from other parties to UKIP, or vice versa, or from UKIP to Veritas, or indeed from Veritas to UKIP, resign their seats and stand for re-election? I'm really unsure about this. Unlike (say) London Assembly members, local councillors really are elected as individuals. Their names appear on the ballot paper, not just the names of their parties, and they are often well-known individuals in their areas who have been elected mainly because they are trusted to do a good job on local issues. On the other hand, some of the voters in local elections do make their choice on the basis of party affiliation and may feel shortchanged if a councillor afterwards changes party. What do people think about this?
