Optimus, I love polls, but the trouble with this one is that it says:

Quote:
If you didn't support UKIP, which party would you support
And yet the posts which start this thread 'clarify' this question to make it one about which party people supported before coming to support UKIP.

This is a completely different question, and hence the answers are pretty confusing as different people took the poll question different ways.

I think many people have answered the first question, ie "If you didn't support UKIP, which party would you support". That is the way I answered the question, and I clicked "something else" because as I made clear in my posting I would probably then support the Liberal Party (not the Lib Dems!). Others would probably support the English Democrats, Veritas or the New Party, all of which fall under "something else", boosting that option to a runaway victory! So it doesn't necessarily mean people voted for "something else" before coming to UKIP, though Tony presumably clicked that button too for having previously supported Health Concern.

I have a friend who is in the BNP and you couldn't wish to meet a more gentle lady.

I tried to persuade her to come over to UKIP but she said she'd been with the BNP for many years, and wouldn't change her allegiance.

She said if the BNP weren't going to put up a candidate in her constituency, she would canvas for the Tories. I may be able to persuade her to canvass for UKIP

No let her canvas for the Tories, then leak it to the press that a BNP member is working for the Tories. Much more effective.

If she is still in the BNP then we don't want anything to do with her, no matter how gentle.

Agreed. I don't know if she's aware of just how gentle her fellow members are in such places as Oldham and Bradford.
