Default Kilory-Silk quits 'charade' party

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...449558,00.html
Quote:
Robert Kilroy-Silk, the talk-show host turned Euro MP, announced tonight he is to quit the UK Independence Party (UKIP), saying he was ashamed to be a member.
Wow the toys have really started flying out of the pram now. What a loser!

Quote:
Tonight Mr Kilroy-Silk said UKIP had betrayed millions of people by squandering its opportunity to become a major political party. People outside the party saw it as "a joke", he said, and it had no policies, no spokespeople, no energy, vision or idea of how Britain should be governed. He added that he would tell people not to vote for the party
Well seeing as the gloves are off. Sod off you idiot, if you would rather people didn't vote for an anti-EU party, then you sir, are a traitor.Looks like people were right all along, a Labour plant designed to do maximum damage to the anti-EU cause.

Quote:
Mr Kilroy-Silk said that while UKIP had "turned its back on people" he would not. "I will be standing at the next general election. I shall be leading a vigorous campaign for the causes I believe in, " he said. "And, unlike the old parties, we shall be honest, open and straight".
Thank God we didn't elect this buffoon as leader. He has insulted a lot of good people tonight, and for that I will never forgive him.

There were two ways he could have left. An amicable divorce, setting up "Veritas" as someone who believed he could achieve the same aims better. Or, slashing the suits, keying the car, pouring paint on the carpet, screaming and throwing crockery.

*sigh*

Better out than in, as the vomiting drunk said.

Frankly I think he's done less damage with his drama queen exit. He's burning his own credibility, not ours. He'll split no vote. And I don't doubt some of the Vertas-ers will take a second look at who they're associating with, shudder, and slink back to UKIP.

I will say this tonight.

Any of the people who declared for Veritas and now see RKS for what his is, a massive ego who acts like a spoilt child when he does not get his way, is welcome to change their minds.

UKIP will have it's election in a year or so. You don't have to follow this clown INTO phpbb_the wilderness!

Quote:
STATEMENT BY ROBERT KILROY-SILK - 20 JANUARY 2005

To be announced at a meeting of the Bosworth Branch of the U.K.
Independence Party tonight, 7.00pm, held at the Hinckley Golf Club,
Leicester Road, Burbage, HINCKLEY, Leicestershire. Chair of Bosworth
UKIP and convenor of the meeting is Mr Mark Harrison. Contact details
below.

"In last year's Euro elections, the U.K. Independence Party quadrupled
the number of its MPs and knocked the Liberal Democrats INTO phpbb_fourth
place.

"This remarkable victory could have been a turning point in British
politics. It could have been the moment when the silent, disillusioned
majority finally found a voice.

"But that didn't happen. Instead of reaching out to the millions who
voted for them on June 10, UKIP's leaders repeated the mistakes of the
party's past. They went AWOL.

"They betrayed the millions who were looking for a very different kind
of political leadership.

"They squandered a golden opportunity to reach out to those who have
grown tired of the old parties with their lies, their deceit, their
broken promises, their discredited pledge cards and their slanging
matches.

"For that I, and countless others, cannot forgive them.

"I tried, in my way, to give UKIP a vision, a sense of purpose and
direction, but at each stage the old guard stood in the way,

"They had achieved their goal. They had got elected as MEPs. So off
they went to Brussels, with expense-account lunches and generous
subsidies, never to be heard of again. They were happy.

"They even refused a simple, fair and democratic means of resolving
this matter - a leadership election of the whole membership. But
instead, the self-serving cabal put every conceivable obstacle in the
way, in order to retain power.

"They do not seem to want to be a mainstream political party. They do
not appear to want to fight the General Election. They have certainly
not shown any appetite for the battle.

"So that is why, amongst other reasons, I am announcing my resignation
frorm UKIP.

"I have not changed my beliefs. I have not changed my determination to
get Britain out of the European Union. I have not diluted my desire to
see Britain a self-governing democracy. What I fought for in May and
June last year, I will continue to fight for today and tomorrow.

"I also believe there are many who share my sense of sadness and
disappointment. The people who are the backbone of UKIP fail to
understand who so little has been done with the victory they worked so
hard to achieve.

"But I have to say that the Party is regarded by those outside it as a
joke. I am ashamed to be a member. I cannot ask people to vote for it
because it has no policies, no spokespersons, no energy, no vision, no
idea of how Britain should be governed.

"Instead I shall advise people not to vote for the Party. To do
otherwise will be to be dishonest, to pretend that the party has a
purpose - when in fact it is a charade, an empty vessel".

"But while UKIP has turned its back on the British people, I shall not.
I will be standing, at the next General Election. I shall be leading a
vigorous campaign for the causes I believe in.

"And, unlike the old parties, we shall be honest, open and straight".

You know what has happened here don't you.

Kilroy-Sulk is not only annoyed at the leadership, he is annoyed at the people who pushed him INTO phpbb_doing this. He was stroked and persuaded INTO phpbb_believing he would be leader of UKIP. He is now mad at those people who egged him on, because they failed.

He looked like a mug at Xmas when it came and went with no sign of him getting a vote. All the legal threats, all the promises that court action would take weeks not months. It was all hot air.

The Veritas thing was a last gasp attempt, and that failed too. He hates everyone at UKIP because of this.

To think this man could have been our leader! A manic, spoilt child who throws tantrums when he doesn't get his way.

Well done members of UKIP for being suspicious, you have been proven right!

Well the thoughts of a very bad loser, it's notg RKS who's let down his followers it's Knapman. If you want to behave like one of the lost sheep of UKIP then fine, but don't have a go at those of us who have the foresight to see a brighter future. Ther's more to life than waiting in a field for Knapman to shaft ewe.

Why is he an idiot, you yourselves have read on this forum recent events by those close to those events, suspension of Bolton Branch for one, if any of you watched t.v. coverage you would of heard say about the "dedicated and hard working members".

If you think that politics has nothing to do with egos, you will not win your seats, YOU are doing this because YOU know that YOUR message is the right message, YOU know that YOU can do a better job than YOUR oponent.

EGO my friends is what will win seats, the over confidence in yourselves, that extra self belief that will never get you down during campaigning, if you get down your campaign and campaign team will get down and YOU will not win.

I am sorry that you have had to hear this, it's almost like hearing that there is no Santa Claus, so whether I personally stay with UKIP or go, I have no grudge against any here, we do have very different opinions on somethings, but all those on this forum are passionate about withdrawal from the eu (amusingly whatever side we all show the same passion as RKS, if only that could be said of the leadership), never knock the passion. I offer this advice freely, as I hope a good contributer to the forum, and as someone who has fought a few Elections in my time.

Look like a winner, act like a winner and you will be a winner, it really is all about ego.

Regards
Dave

I respect your comments Dave.

The reason I think he is an idiot, is because he chose to leave on bad terms. Saying he will campaign for people to not vote UKIP, is not what I call a useful comment for the EU cause.

Alas it is probably only the start of the attacks on UKIP and it's members.

I fully understand why some or even a lot of people want new leadership. For me you have to be careful who you choose. I truly believe RKS has shown why he was not the right man for the job.
