Well that was pathetic. Did we even bother to campaign at all? Even worse is the fact the Lib Dems got in. what happened to make our vote collapse like that? All other elections have been positive for us recently, so I would be interested to know what kind of campaign the Lib Dems ran there. If they are like my area, I am sure they will have put out some gate mail on UKIP to try and blacken out name.
Worked a treat if this is the case!

I don't live in Hull, but I do live in the East Yorkshire area. I would say that it is the media that is the problem. Coverage of UKIP has severely diminished since RKS left the party.
Labour dominate the main media almost totally, so it is difficult for anyone else to get a look in. Not sure what the answer could be, except the very hard leg work it takes to push yourselves forward. |

This result is unacceptable, what I want to know is what kind of campaign was run, were the big guns walking the streets and holding meetings not just for one day but for at least two weeks, why were people not aware of this election. Im bloody sure if there was a re-election of an MEP every body would have known and would have been asked to rally round and put there hands in their pocketsThis result is unacceptable, what I want to know is what kind of campaign was run, were the big guns walking the streets and holding meetings not just for one day but for at least two weeks, why were people not aware of this election. Im bloody sure if there was a re-election of an MEP every body would have known and would have been asked to rally round and put there hands in their pockets. What is the party going to do now, are they going to set up a committee to see where we went wrong, what actions are going to be put in place, what lessons have we learned and what do we need to do better. IF they don’t do these things they don’t deserve to be in charge.

We shouldn't forget Hull today or ever.
I think many people in UKIP completely under-rate the importance of local elections. I've even heard occasional sneers about "standing in parish-pump elections." This lack of committment by people who think that only Westminster elections count then results in a relatively feeble effort being made in important local polls like the one in Hull. I've heard that it is a well-known maxim among activists in the three old parties that unless a party holds at least one local council seat in a constituency, that party has virtually no hope of winning that constituency in a general election. Has anybody else heard this? Does anybody know if it is true? To me it sounded like the wisdom of the ages, but I can't rule out the possibility that it is a load of old cobblers, and I would vastly appreciate some feedback from seasoned campaigners. The one upset by a small party in recent general elections was when Richard Taylor of Health Concern became MP for Kidderminster. People often forget that before he won that seat, Health Concern had already captured quite a few seats on the local council. Perhaps UKIP should be concentrating extra resources on those few constituencies where we hold local council seats. And we should be trying much harder to make sure we don't lose those local council seats that we already hold! |
