24 hour opening
As this is the flavour of the month I wondered whether ukip have a policy on this and what the thoughts of others are. I personally do not have a problem with it. I don’t think it will encourage binge drinking or drink related violence.
I think the real problem with drunkenness is down to the people who produce and promote Alco- pops and high strength beers. If any one has ever tasted these Alco-pops they will know that they taste like pop, why is this? Is it any wonder that more and more girls are now behaving like drunken louts (no more Babychams or half lagers) why have Heineken removed their weak lager to replace it with a higher strength lager? So why doesn’t the government have ago at the companies that promote high strength alcohol drinks. Money probably

Certain pubs in non-residential areas should be allowed to open whatever hours they wish. I believe the same shouldn't be extended to all pubs though, as drunks do tend to be noisy when they leave the place!

A lot of problems are caused by people knowing time is running out, so they up the binge pace right at the end of the night. They walk outside and the fresh air hits them, which make some people go loopy.

Bad behavoiur with drunkeness have gone hand and hand together, ever since humans discovered alcahol. It's a tough one, but people have to take responsability for themselves. If they cause a real nuisance of themselves, then I would like to see lots of community service thrown at them. If they are violent, normal law should apply.

I agree with your first statement, I personally don’t think many pubs will take up the option they will probably vary their hour to suit their customers

Yes people have to take responsibility for themselves but we are talking about young people with very little life experience. Surely the community should have some responsibility for them and hold these brewery’s to account for the high alcohol content in their drinks which are deliberately aimed at young people.

I think most pubs in out of the way places will stay as they are, maybe close a bit later.

City centre drinkeries though will all extend to 2 - 4 AM. Just longer for the masses to drink more, cause more damage both to infrastructure, their own health, and the health of others who get in their way.

Not to mention the effect on industry as absenteeism and illness rises.

It didn't work in Ireland, it didn't work in Australia. It's another 'lets be like europe' idea from Blair, may he rot in hell. My children will one day question why this man was allowed to carry on.

Change should be made from need, not for the hell of it.

I'm opposed to it aswell. We have a reputation for drinking probably unparalled in the world. This is not going to change despite the Gov'ts desire to turn us INTO phpbb_a cafe culture. As a senior policeman said recently 'if you want a cafe culture build cafes'. I would have thought that residents next to pubs, bars or clubs are already fed up with the yobbish behaviour during drinking hours. I don't think that extending hours is going to slow down alcohol consumption. I'm just glad I live in the sticks where drinkers (me included) are still relatively civilised.

I think people are missing the point. I don’t know what the percentages are but I bet over 90% of people drink regularly with out problems. Since they introduced all day opening I have not walked round town centres falling over drunken louts, but this is what we were told would happen by the same people who are now saying the same old rubbish. Anyway about the minority of drinkers who cause a problem does society bear some responsibility? :?: :?: :?:

I don't drink, but I have been round pubs and clubs all my working life. 24 hour drinking, it depends on so many things, where the pub is, the type of regulars and so on. If you have a pub near a factory which does shift work, it's not unreasonable to expect it to stay open later. On the other hand if you have a pub which serves mainly meals, the chances are unless he's going to cook all night, he'll be closing earlier. The most sensible licensee's can do is get together and arrange a rota, this will stagger the time of closing and reduce the trouble when all the pubs turn out at the same time. There's no way a pub can afford to stay open, pay staff and heating and electric if there's no customers.
