Rightly or wrongly UKIP has always been associated with right wing tories in Labour circles and I must confess after attending a very early UKIP meeting I was of the same mind. UKIP lost a lot of this stigma when RKS joined the ranks, it's a shame about the problems since.
Getting back to your question, When in opposition many Labour people were against europe, but as I've already said there has been no alternative! UKIP has to form some definate policies and then do all that is possible to publicise them. Considering somebody like Aitken as a candidate is certainly a strp in the wrong direction. If you want support, you have to earn trust.

On that basis neither labour nor Tory will get any support at all.

You should be right about that, unfortunately you haven't alowed the the genetic link, I know it's hard to believe but many voters still vote like their parents did. It's not going to be easy to change that. The British public not like change!

Heheh! I am familiar with the genetic link.
The two weeks spent canvassing Hartlepool I rank as two of the most depressing weeks of my life.
