On another thread, someone said that JD Wetherspoons pubs are anti-EU.

Is this definitely true or just a rumour?

Which other companies are anti-EU? Perhaps we should be approaching them and asking for political donations. I think that electoral law's been changed so that we can tell people on our leaflets that a particular company backs our campaign. That might make it easier to get donations perhaps?

I would be a little nervous of allowing corporations to sponsor the party in return for advertising. I think that any donations, from any source, should be anonymous to remove any suggestion of influence.

Having said that, there is no reason why we shouldn't approach them for donations, on the understanding that it would be unconditional.

Just to be devil's advocate, consider that running advertising could seem less "corrupt". The money buys the adverts. Simple and out in the open; there is no need to suppose secret kickbacks because both sides visibly gain something.

A donation by contrast always looks like somebody is buying something. Give up all that money for no good reason? Not likely!

I'm speaking to a few local businesses that do lots of leaflet advertising, takeaways and pizzas etc. Offering in exchange for a donation to mention them in our newsletters, (offering a discount to members perhaps), and offering to post one of their leaflets when we do ours.

Worth a crack.

Definitley! As long as we are open and up front, small parties have to do this kind of thing to get noticed!
