Default Essex County Council By-Election Result

Quote:
The result of the Essex County Council By-Election for the Harlow - Little Parndon and Town Centre Ward tonight (percentages for this election shown in brackets):

1. Labour; 1083 (43.5%) DOWN 9.1%
2. Conservative, 715 (28.7%) UP 0.8%
3. UKIP, 261 (10.5%) UP 10.5%
4. Liberal Democrat, 213 (8.6%) DOWN 10.9%
5. Hands Off Our Park, 195 (7.8%) UP 7.8%
6. English Democrats, 21 (0.8%) UP 0.8%

Turn-out 25% (52% last time).

UKIP, Hands Off Our Park and the English Democrats did not contest the seat last time.

The Conservative candidate was the only one who lived in the ward and understandably made much of this in his campaign.

Grateful thanks to all who gave practical help or encouragement with the campaign.

Tony Bennett
Congratulations to Mr Bennett, that is a very significant result. It is way above the 2-5% that we are apparently polling nationally at the moment. And he pushed one of the major parties INTO phpbb_fourth place. That will mean that the local PPC will have to be taken as a serious contender in the general election.

Also worth noting that LAB & LIB lost votes, not CON.

Evidence that UKIP gets most of its votes from disaffected Tories is not true.

More proof that polls are a bunch of **** too. In this Labour stronghold (still don't understand how they have any!), UKIP have made massive strides.

Well done Mr Bennett, and it is good to see people are seeing what the Lib Dems are. They are no longer a valid protest vote!

BTW English Democrat, what happened to your lot? Was there a Morris dancing convention clash or something?

Perhaps all your support was at a meeting with the rest of the anti-union union you are forming????

So much for the EDP claiming their support is growing. Great news for us, however! It shows our critics that we are still on the rise, despite a few claiming we can never get anywhere without a certain 'sainted' celeb in the hot seat.
