Default More UKIP shops before the Election

UKIP opens souvenir shops

Nigel Farage, the leader of Ukip's MEPs in Strasbourg was at hand when his party’s first souvenir opened in Ramsgate, Kent. It could be the first in a national chain of stores in 30 towns across the country before the general election, the Guardian reported.
So we could have 30 of the shops by the time battle commences. I wonder if Woking will get one!

Of course the monies being used for these shops would be far better spent on the Candidates expenditure don't you think.

Not if they prove to be self funding. That's why it is sensible to try one and see how it goes.

Who is getting the money, I doubt UKIP will see any of it, I just don't see this as a good idea at all, where are all these other shops going to be.

Who knows, if the first one flops then I guess there will be no more. I would have thought seaside towns where little Union Jack flags, and whatever are popular.

I would rather see something than nothing, and if they do take off, we will have a chain of stores backing UKIP.

Worth a punt I say!

Exactly. It needs to be tested, and that is what they are doing. Very sensible, if you ask me.

The shop in Ramsgate, one of Thanet's towns, (and with 50% of the vote in South Thanet ) is self-financing and run by the local branch to raise funds. It has had a turnover of over £600 in the first few days. People are coming from all over Kent to purchase patriotic paraphenalia and clothing etc. The location of the shop has also ensured members of the public have come in off the street for more information and many have now joined. The shop represents 1/3 of the premises, the rest being the South Thanet campaign centre. Members man the shop from 0900 to 1700 daily and others will shortly start telephone campaigning from the premises. The cost of refurbishment, decoration, new windows and doors, kitchen etc. was all met by branch members. We look forward to raising enough money from this venture to ensure all costs for the General Election are met. If there is any money left over we will donate it to the Party. I know these things to be fact as I am the shop Manager.

Thats excellent news, and I look forward to seeing 30 other shops at least. Repeating, what sounds like a total success story so far.

I am glad the idea was given a trial, and I hope people will think twice before moaning about such initiatives in the future!

Very good news! Unfortunately other forum uses were quick to mock the idea of a shop before it was even given a chance. Just another way to throw mud at Nigel and Roger, I suppose. I hope all those quick to attack the shop will now admit they were wrong. Not every member or supporter has access to the internet. Many people are also wary of sending credit cards details via a computer. Therefore UKIP shops are a great way to get our message across to the public.
