Nah - Darwin's kick was evolution, not electrocution.

A man was found naked and dead with an unidentifiable mass attached to his penis. The coroner examined the man and, in a brilliant display of detective work, determined that he had connected the heart of a cow to electric cables, and plugged the apparatus INTO phpbb_a normal 220V outlet. He then tried to have sex with this quickly-pumping toy, and was killed by the electricity unleashed by the object he had created
Now THATS DIY!

He's lucky - had he done that in a coupla weeks he'd have been fined five grand.

Dunno - in this context the cows heart was a 'socket' and minor work to a socket is allowed!

Nope, the closest it came to mentioning directives was:

"The new regulations, introduced by Mr Prescott's Office of the Deputy Prime Minister only last summer, to conform with an edict from Cenelec, the Brussels-based "Committee for the Normalisation of Electrotechnology", impose draconian new rules on anyone needing to carry out electrical work in the home.

Not a directive in sight
To quote directly from your post dated December 17th and timed at 1255 -
"Having read the latest EU directives re electrical installations and repairs/adjustements thereof and the related training, local authority approval(s) and so on . . . "

The difference between EU Legislation (whether it be directives or regulations or whatever) and standards is - IMHO - an important one. I am not just nit-picking here!!

It is easy to find detailed information about the proposals, amendments, debates and discussions, a great deal of which happens in public, which bring EU legislation INTO phpbb_being, but I cannot find (and if anyone can correct me on this I would be very pleased to hear about it) any public information about the process of adoption of European standards, which appears (and again, correct me if I am wrong) to take place well away from public view.
