Default European Referendum "no" campaign

I asked a question a while ago about whether a "no" campaign exists and whether UKIP was involved.

There is an article in today's Times which quotes a spokesman from the "no" campaign:

Quote:
Neil O’Brien, of Vote No, said: “We would prefer it if it said ‘European Constitution’ rather than the long-winded ‘treaty to establish an EU constitution’.”
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/newspap...395261,00.html

Does anybody know who Mr O'Brien is?
Does UKIP have a plan to be part of the "no" campaign?

I have no idea who he is, but I would hope we would be a leading voice in the "NO" campaign! I can see no reason why there should be seperate campaigns, as in the NERA referendum.

It seems that the knowledgeable people on this board know little of this which does not bode well!

ops:

I am sadly lacking on this campaign, but I am going to start looking INTO phpbb_it now!

Starting with

http://www.vote-no.com/home/home.aspx

They have a news letter you can sign up to which is a good start.

Looking at the site, it seems to be pretty non-partisan, so I'm not sure how welcome UKIP wanting to add its name will be. I will make some enquiries and back back to the forum on this.

On thing I will say, is they do not want withdrawal from the EU as a whole.

From their website

Quote:
Isn’t the Constitution necessary to allow the new Eastern European member countries to join?

No. The Nice Treaty (signed in 2000) made the changes necessary for enlargement, and the UK Government has admitted that the Constitution is not necessary to make an enlarged Europe work. When talks on the Constitution temporarily collapsed in December 2003, Jack Straw said, "life will go on... the Nice arrangements will see us through to enlargement... enlargement will go ahead without it, and it will be a success."
So while they may welcome our view on stopping the constitution being implemented, they may not welcome our views on complete withdrawal.

From their website, looks like a professional operation. I am tempted compare with UKIP's offerings in this area.

Just as an aside, I think it is important that the No campaign is strictly non-partisan. It's too important an issue to party politicise and risk alienating prospective no voters who might be turned off by one party or another.

I agree. We can all support their campaign, without the need to attached are own colours.

They are a professional outfit, run by professionals in business. There is no reason why we can't get behind their campaign on this issue.

They would stop short of pulling out of the EU though, so I am still fighting for UKIP,first and foremost, with this being a short term project.

Short-term, yes, but also overwhelmingly important. Lose the referendum on this and that's it for the UK, forever.

I agree, all eurosceptics can unite without parties getting in the way on this one!
