Default Water, Water everywhere

On leaving the E.U., UKIP would not necessarily take Britain out of the E.U. They would leave it to the people to decide in a referendum:

“If it is the will of the British people, democratically expressed, that Britain should leave the European Union (EU) the following will take place…”

This must be removed immediately, UKIP is for withdrawal period.
On taking up Government UKIP;

All EU law, regulation and case law will cease to apply to the UK.

British waters shall be regained and defended.

Gold reserves shall be handed back to GB.

Then and only then should negotiations start, lets get our country back first then talk.

This watering down of a the fundemental UKIP policy shows that too many are happy to be on the gravy train.

Perhaps the sentence was intended to mean that if UKIP ever got voted INTO phpbb_government, that would be construed as an expression of the will to leave the EU?

I would assume this to be the case since it doesn't specifically mention a referendum.

Tony, as you are aware I am a cynic, this fundemental belief needs to be clear so as there is no room for ambiguity, fancy wording can be taken for many things.

I agree with Dave on this one. There should be no ambiguity at all on the one issue that unites every single member of this party.

If you vote for UKIP, you should be assured that there will be an immediate end to EU membership, and the return of all powers and controls will follow as fast as possible.

Good point Dave, I didn't notice that. It's reminiscent of the debacle in 2001, when we changed from 'we demand withdrawal' to 'we demand a referendum', at the insistence of Paul Sykes.

There are some very worrying things in this manifesto, but it was this watering down of fundemental policy that i picked up on straight away, it needs changing, how can any PPC campaign on this wooley wording, and who is responsible for the watering down.

I was merely interpreting the meaning of the sentence.

I've been selected as a candidate (yes, I've got my official letter!) and I intend to run a professional, efficient, energetic campaign. I hope all of us intend the same, whatever we think of the leadership issue. But how can we be expected to defend a document like this?

Many people (including elected representatives and senior figures, though not RKS) are saying it may be better to leave UKIP and start a new party. I've always disagreed, but now I'm wondering. Even if we do get a new broom at the top, we'll still have 9 useless MEPs, we'll still have the financial black hole that is Ashford, and we'll still have the malign influence of Farage. But it's probably far too late now....
