This was a fascinating programme. The entire thing ended up being about RKS and UKIP, which was remarkable. If that happens every time he appears on TV or on the radio, he could dominate the media in the run up to the general election.
I don't think that he suffered on the Arab stuff too badly at all, and managed to cleverly turn it INTO phpbb_a free speech issue. I wish that he could bring himself to say a few conciliatory words to British muslims and to restate that it isn't abaout Islam, it is about Arab states. He only ever seems to make half the argument. I wonder how much of it is deliberate to retain the image of being controversial so that the issue is repeatedly brought up? I nearly fell asleep twice while Ruth Kelly was talking. A valuable exercise in disengaging with the voters. |

...audience members attempting to shout down panelists is the method which those who would seek to deny free speech operate...Islam is the South Africa of today...it gives a cause to those (non-muslims in this case) who don't really give a toss about it but love to defend something they see as being oppressed.

I have to say (in my first message on the board) that I found RKS to be quite refreshing on QT last night.
Frank, honest, open and quite a contrast to the rest of the panel. Didn't dodge question and stood up for his beliefs and values. Tha is what is missing in politics these days! Remember the days when a party actually had values and stood for them? They didn't pander to the latest focus group or opinion poll results. They set their values and stuck to them. People accepted the values or they didn't. That's a far cry from the "say anything to get INTO phpbb_office" approach of all the other parties. Bottom line is RKS went up in my opinion following that show. |
