This was a fascinating programme. The entire thing ended up being about RKS and UKIP, which was remarkable. If that happens every time he appears on TV or on the radio, he could dominate the media in the run up to the general election.

I don't think that he suffered on the Arab stuff too badly at all, and managed to cleverly turn it INTO phpbb_a free speech issue. I wish that he could bring himself to say a few conciliatory words to British muslims and to restate that it isn't abaout Islam, it is about Arab states. He only ever seems to make half the argument. I wonder how much of it is deliberate to retain the image of being controversial so that the issue is repeatedly brought up?

I nearly fell asleep twice while Ruth Kelly was talking. A valuable exercise in disengaging with the voters.

...audience members attempting to shout down panelists is the method which those who would seek to deny free speech operate...Islam is the South Africa of today...it gives a cause to those (non-muslims in this case) who don't really give a toss about it but love to defend something they see as being oppressed.

Sent in by Tony Bennett (Mr Kilroy-Silk's assistant):
Quote:
" Responding to Anthony Butcher's comments about Robert Kilroy-Silk and Muslims, Robert frequently had Muslims on his 'Kilroy' show - notably Mansoor Mughal, the moderate, pro-British Head of the Muslim Council in Leicester (who frequently writes for the 'Daily Mail').

On 11 September 2004, in his 'Sunday Express' column, Robert wrote the following:

' Last Thursday I was warmly greeted outside the House of Commons by four besuited Muslim men. They were, they said, British and proud to be “British Muslims”. There are thousands like them. They need to make their voices heard. “It is a certain fact”, as Abdel al-Rashed said: “that not all Muslims are terrorists”, but the moderate majority must do more. They should vigorously condemn all terrorism as unIslamic, act as decent role models, and take the lead in insisting that there is no place in Britain for evil fanatics like Abu Hamza, Yusuf al-Qaradawi and Omar Bakri Mohammed. Muslims, as Abdel says, “must cure themselves”. ' "

This attack does have its serious side when recent events in Holland are considered

Are we sure the attack was intended for Kilroy? Maybe it was meant for Ruth Kelly - perhaps for not wearing a miniskirt?

This from the Grauniad (edited):-

Quote:
The MEP said his assailant (over 6ft and white) shouted: "You've offended my religion, I'm doing this in the name of Islam."

Mr Kilroy Silk said he told his attacker: "You obviously like ****, have some back." He claimed he had "gently massaged it INTO phpbb_his hair and spread it across his face". The man was allowed to go while the MEP changed his clothes.

Speaking on Any Questions? he said he hoped to be elected leader before Christmas. A Ukip spokesman later said this would be impossible, because 70 days' notice was required for an election.
I'd forgotten about the 'Leader by Christmas' claim. This sounds like someone with something up his sleeve, don't you think?

Default RKS on Question time

I have to say (in my first message on the board) that I found RKS to be quite refreshing on QT last night.

Frank, honest, open and quite a contrast to the rest of the panel. Didn't dodge question and stood up for his beliefs and values.

Tha is what is missing in politics these days!

Remember the days when a party actually had values and stood for them? They didn't pander to the latest focus group or opinion poll results. They set their values and stuck to them. People accepted the values or they didn't. That's a far cry from the "say anything to get INTO phpbb_office" approach of all the other parties.

Bottom line is RKS went up in my opinion following that show.

KS did well. The message about Europe Immigration and cultural differences came across loud and clear in contrast to the politically correct rambling of the other panellists
