Okay. I'll agree to what you want re marijuana if you agree the same should be done with alcohol.

If not - why not?

The genie is already out of the bottle with booze...but even that was not enough for some...

The problem and effects of booze was contained to an extent when it was only available in pubs and proper off licences. Now, every supemarket and coner shop is selling booze aimed at all ages.

Look around you and see the vomit ridden streets and blood stained casualty departments of hospitals and tell me that making booze more accessible has not created an even bigger problem.

Any fool can legalise anything. Its a lot more difficult (if not nearly imposible) cleaning up the mess created by 'liberalisation'.

What 'mess' would be created by legalising marijuana do you suppose?

Simply by the act of removing its illegality it would need no policing.
Quality control would not be an issue - folks will grow their own, all they need are seeds.

Marijuana is, after all, a natural herb which can be used without any processing whatsoever.

One could make dandelions illegal just 'cos some folks get stoned on dandelion wine. Or potatos for that matter.

My apologies. I thought you had given it some serious thought. I didn't realise you had some sort of hippy commune "Gee , wow, crazy, man" sort of legalisation in mind.

Thanks for all these replies. What people don't realise (and I didn't realise until recently) is that all member countries of the UN signed a treaty in the 60's agreeing to make the sale and possession of cannabis illegal. So if a country wants to legalise or decriminalise it, it would have to repudiate the treaty or withdraw from the UN. Even the Dutch never decriminalised it, they just turned a blind eye to small quantities.

Now I have answerd your question, perhaps you might do me the courtesy of answering my original question which was "What 'mess' would be created by legalising marijuana do you suppose?"

And which country led the creation of this treaty and what were its motives?
