Default English Parliament

At present it is not UKIP policy to support the idea of an English Parliament. I for one think this is a sensible solution to the mess left by the Goverments devolution policy, how many of you feel the same way?

Default agree absolutely

If the Scots want their own parliament, just fine, if the Welsh, go for it, the Cornish (now we really are being ridiculous).

Probably this should be given serious consideration, because if England votes OUT and Scotland, NIreland or Wales vote IN, one has a difficult situation on one's hands, unless that is you are like me and see it as a win win situation.

Sounds like we could get 1000 new members in the form the EDP if we did go down this route. I think it might be popular with the rest of England too.

Problem is if England splits with the rest of the union it naturally weakens everyone. with the splitting of England INTO phpbb_a federal region in between Wales and Scotland the whole of the British isles will have been effectively neutered. We cannot afford that to happen. A united Britain is a strong Britain, a strong Britain has always been impossible to occupy. We should not make it easy for us to be subjugated.

I do not see the union spliting, if you look at the Scottish Parliamnet and Welsh Asembley, which I opposed incidently you have to say they have done a lot of good, e.g free care for the elderly, no tution fees for UNI students etc. There has not been any evidence so far that devolution is leading to the breakup of the UK. What is unnaceptable is Scottish MPS being used to forc Tution Fees on the English, an English Parlaiment could counter the inbalance casued by Blairs devolution policy.

Federal UK/Britain is the answer

This preserves the UK but gives England equal status to Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland.

A British Senate also solves the House of Lords 'problem'

Default English Parliament

Unlike the Scottish Parliament & Welsh Assembly an English Parliament would potentially not cost us any money. The house of commons would simply exclude Scottish and Welsh members from attending and voting on those matters that concerned the English.

Simple & cheap !

I entered this discussion with an open mind. I find MrMoor's arguments the most compelling ie we are stronger united. That is surely what the United Kingdom means. The nonsense of the Scottish and Welsh "parliaments" becomes more obvious every day. Our aim must be to dissolve these aberrations as part of our exit strategy from the EU - they are part of the regionalism agenda aka divide and rule.

I did not support the establishment of the Scotish and Welsh devolved bodies but I think we have to be pragmatic about this, saying we will abolish them is not practicable as a policy. Devolution has created an inbalance in the Uk which really only an English Parlaiment can adress, I know some argue for English votes for English Laws but htat just creates two diffrent types of MP causing more inbalance in my view. However I am pleased to see a wide range of opinons being expressed in this debate.

I think that one thing we must bear in mind is that part of the reason the North East voted NO, is that the public DO NOT want more politicians.

An English Parliament can be achieved with less politicians within a Federal UK.

Simple:

1 Remove Celtic Constitency MP's from House of Commons to Create an English Parliament.

2 Convert the House of Lords INTO phpbb_a British Senate (Elected by PR)

British Prime Minister sits in the British Senate
Foreign Minister sits in the British Senate

- British Senate is a 'reviewing chamber' for all the National Parliaments
- British Senate deals with Defence
- British Senate deals with Foreign Policy

AND

=========================================
English First Minister - Sits in English Parliament (First Past Post)

English Home Secretary - Sits in English Parliament
English Health Secretary - Sits in English Parliament
English Education Secretary - Sits in English Parliament

==========================================
Scottish First Minister - Sits in Scottish Parliament

etc

===========================================
Welsh First Minister - Sits in Welsh Parliament

etc

===========================================
Irish First Minister - Sits in Northern Irish Parliament or Combined Irish Parliament

etc

============================================

Its not really that difficult to create a logical model for democracy in the 21st Centuary in Britain & England.

ED
