Default Kilroy 'to retreat from leadership bid'

http://www.epolitix.com/EN/News/2004...d56caa97ed.htm
Quote:
Robert Kilroy-Silk appears poised to rule out an immediate bid for the leadership of the UK Independence Party.

The broadcaster turned MEP is expected to make the decision following an increasingly bitter row with his colleagues.
Well, that was unexpected, but welcome nevertheless.

Quote:
But he is expected to continue campaigning for the party to contest every seat at the next election - a move which is likely to leave a cloud over UKIP.
He doesn't need to campaign for it. It is formal party policy, voted for overwhelmingly by the party membership at the conference.

Excellent news, now we can get on with fighting Labour, Tory and Liberal MPs and replacing them with UKIP ones who will stand up for the people of this country. RKS will I hope play a major role in the campaign and continue to attract positive publicity for UKIP as he was doing before this divisive row.

Let's not jump the gun though - he hasn't made an official announcement yet, and rumours can very easily be started by a misplaced comment.

Fair enough but I do hope the leadership do not attempt to sideline him he has a key role to play

RKS will go up in my opinion big time if this is true. It shows he is willing to put the party and country first, and will stand him in good stead for the future. It would also mean Mr Farage was wrong in the mail he sent me.

Dear Mr Davies

I have tried to broker a compromise deal on several occasions, each time Kilroy-Silk has turned his back on it. He wants Leader or nothing. There is no vacancy and he is doing us great damage.

DICTATED BY NIGEL FARAGE MEP,
LEADER OF THE UK INDEPENDENCE PARTY IN THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
SENT IN HIS ABSENCE BY JILLIAN CLARK (MISS), PERSONAL ASSISTANT

This wouldn't be an unusual political trick, if it proves to be untrue; undermine the opposition by making people think that they are changing their stance. If it isn't true, I would very much like to know how it started and who was the source.

The fact that we haven't heard anything directly from Mr Kilroy-Silk on the issue is slightly worrying. I would have expected a press release by now if it was true.
