Default Kilroy-Silk 2

At a recent UKIP meeting I attended the vast majority of those present did not want a leadership bid before the election. I have the greatest respect for Mr Kilroy-Silk and do believe he has a lot to offer the Party. I would be very sad if he left the Party over this issue. All he has to do is wait two years and then fight for the leadership. Then the members can decide. I would not, however, wish to see the Party become the 'Kilroy Party' as has happened in other countries which have allowed TV 'stars' to dominate them. This happened in Finland to a party where a TV sportsman became their spokesman. He later left the party after a scandal. It did them great harm and resulted in the loss of most of their seats.

Again another of the 'not a celeb party'.

I remember when the cat-calls were 'let's not have a politician pretending to be a TV presenter'

Remeber he was a full-time politician BEFORE he was a TV presenter.

I am well aware he was a MP before he was a TV presenter. As I said before he must work with the Party and not against it by splitting the membership over this issue.

Default Kilroy does have a point!

I mean.... does anyone hear anything from the leader? he is..... Invisible! but then I guess it shows the sad realities of the party where the leaders are fighting for themselves and no one else.

Default must seek a win win situation

I seem to have been one of the fe London branch chairman who participated in the recent phone poll of opinion about RKS's bid for leadership.

I want to say one thing. We must ask RKS and UKIP leadership to seek a win win situation.

Like others I believe RKS can be a great benefit for UKIP. Like others I object to the method he has shown recently. His diplomacy in public speaking leaves something to be desired (the intent or content for me is not in dispute). But even someone as politically incorrect as me has learnt that I should try to get my message across persuasively rather than bluntly.

Maybe the ideal situation is where RKS effectively does become leader, but in a transitioned managed way which still affords UKIPs established leaders a equally infuential voice in UKIP policy, strategy and tactics. I have concerns about RKS's style but my chief reservations about him are that he has displayed a blundering style rather than a skilled-leader, team oriented articulate and persuasive style.

I hope that RKS and our established leadership put together an innovative package that gives everybody what they want.

Unlike most of UKIP's members and supporters Kilroy has had the opportunity to see how they work things amongst themselves. By making a public declaration of his desires the current leadership have shown themselves to be not much different to the rest of the professional politicians ie not wanting to face up to a legitimate challenger by settling it in a democratic fashion.

Default how things work?

As a former European Parliament civil servant (24 years) I have seen many examples of how soon MEP's realise just how 'cosy' their position is. When I heard Nigel Farage state that 'We are not like Guy Fawkes, with the intention to destroy the Parliament from within', I recognised the first symptoms of the 'coasting' disease setting in. Kilroy-Silk has no doubt recognised these symptoms in his collegues and wants to take action to stop the rot.

UKIP needs to go on the attack on the issue of EU withdrawal whilst the popular support is growing. If it does not take advantage of the moment, not only within the UK but by encouraging like-minded groupings in the EU member states, the leviathan EU will continue unchecked to a point where nothing can be done about it.

Allies of Mr Knapman have suggested that the flamboyant Mr Kilroy-Silk should be expelled for his dissenting remarks, but yesterday, the leader appeared sanguine, dismissing his rival as "one person, one vote amongst our 27,000 members."

He added: "Two years ago nobody wanted to be leader, now everybody wants to be leader - I think that’s a very healthy sign."
