Default Lazy drivel from the BBC

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/3711870.stm

I don't know why I bother with the BBC sometime. This "Analysis" is nothing but a very biased rant by an obviously left leaning Jonathan Beale.

As always it claims the membership of UKIP are Conservatives in disguise, and the usual attempts to portray the party as small and innefective.

He goes on to suggest it is full of people over 50 (not my experience and whats wrong with the over 50's anyway?), and that the party has nothing to be proud of in beating one of the main parties INTO phpbb_fourth place.

I want some of my license fee back!

I actually think that it is a reasonably fair analysis of the party. Certainly if we were to set up a "UKIP Youth" movement we would have to put the maximum entry age at about 45 to ensure getting enough members.

Quote:
Everyone here says that could be funded by a "dividend" from leaving the European Union.
That part isn't true. The clear message from the conference was that the dividend was only a small bonus to leaving the EU and not the main thrust of our economic policy. The party heartily endorsed apolicy of aiming for small government and we are aiming to make sweeping changes in the way things are handled, rather than changing the funding necessarily.

The main aim is to give back the responsibiity and trust to doctors, teachers, police and so on to run their own affairs rather than being micr-managed from central government. This will increase productivity, efficientcy and morale right across the public sector.

Well I must be in an exception area then and must be an exception to the rule also, as I am 31 and have only ever voted Conservative once. I helped a lady campaign for the local elections too, though I don't doubt there are not enough women in the party, but that could be said of all political parties.

Rusty Lee becoming a candidate is a good thing too as she is everything we are apparently not! How you can say that report is a fair view of the party though amazes me. I though it was very patronising and put down what I consider some real progress mad recently by the party.

Still I guess I read INTO phpbb_things more than I should and I am biased in favour of UKIP.

There was a lot of talk about the general election at the conference, and some of it was completely unreaslistic. It is possible for us to win a few seats in Parliament, but I don't think that we are likely to take a hundred or more seats. As much as we like to talk about a political revolution taking place, such shifts actually rarely materialise. The polls always mislead.

Petrina Holdsworth held up a newpaper poll and claimed that it showed that we could get anything up to 50% of the vote in the election. That is nice to hear, but also very unlikely. Getting people to shift their votes away from the other main parties is monstrously difficult. The Lib Dems have been fighting to become a competitor right from their inception. And they are still struggling. It would be silly for us to think that we can sweep in and become the third largest party.
