Default Brief extract

Brief extract from the Telegraph article on the link given in the last posting to this thread:

"Philips, the electronics company, has created a 42-ins 3D TV set that gives viewers the impression of images leaping out at them. Experts believe the development will revolutionise the TV viewing experience because people will feel that they are not just watching the action but are actually in it."

Well they've taken their time. I always did wonder why people had to wear silly 3D glasses and the TV/cinema screens didn't wear them instead, seems they've got it the right way round this time.

Philips is already selling the sets to the commercial advertising market for up to £20,000 each, but the company is confident that cheaper versions costing £1,200 will be available for consumers in three years' time when enough content is available to justify splashing out on the new technology.
£1,200 for your everyday residential consumer isn't bad, the run of the mill 42" ones aren't much cheaper than that now so I think they will sell extremely well.

Is this anything to do with this EU funded stuff.

https://www.3dtv-research.org/

I remember an article a while back, saying they thought this would be ready for the home in 10 years.

It wouldn't surprise me if a company rendered the whole project totally a waste of money, by beating them to the punch by a number of years.

On the other hand, Philips are pretty cosy with the EU, so they may be the beneficaries of the taxpayer funded project.

Because it only works (the older method) when each of your eyes sees a different image. So your left eye sees everything green, and your right sees everything red.
