I don't live in the UK at the moment and I got satellite some time ago and I thought it would be great to keep up with the goings on in the UK etc. As you have stated it is poor value for money and quite disappointing.

That does appear to be the case, and I am hazrding a guess that UK broadcasters are quite happy to pay the US companies that churn out rubbish to put on British tv.

What is additionally annoying is that when we send programs to the US it has to be changed to suit their sense of humour, but when they send their stuff to the UK it stays as it is.

Its just the preferences of the market. Colloquial jokes and situations don't work in transition from here to the USA. They do in reverse, because American culture is known universally.

The massive import of American television (and I'm talking more about children's television than adult programming) is having one effect - the erosion of British culture and values and their slow but steady replacement with American language, ideas and culture.

Which, in my opinion, is not such a good thing.

British TV in my opinion beats American TV hands done.

Being in Australia has made me realise how good British TV and our regular channels are, particularly the BBC. Here TV and the channels are dire, even the public station and the commerical channels aren't even worth mentioning unless you love sport, reality TV and lots or repeats of American drames and comedy.
