Default Ofcom says licence fee "could be shared"

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | TV licence fee 'could be shared'

Wrong idea for the right reasons. They've worked out what people want is choice but then they suggest that they redistribute our hard earned money to commercial companies whilst retaining the BBC as a public service broadcaster.

That will hurt the BBC like Royal Mail was harmed after it's mandate was shared.

What we need is an end to all the licence fee, the BBC being turned into a commercial broadcaster and a subscription service through freeview allowing people to choose extra channels and pay for them.

Whilst I can understand Ofcom's concern in that "...ITV, Channel 4 and Five were struggling .."..

I agree with Alex that licence sharing in not a good idea.

In any case, I would not support C5's expensive News Readers....

Channel five is utter **** anyway.

We should not be forced to pay for poor service (that includes half of the junk the BBC puts out).

I agree - get rid of the compulsory television licence fee and make the europhile BBC earn its keep. Why should people be forced to pay the BBC in order to get the right to watch ITV and other independent broadcasters?

The defintion of the term "public service broadcasting" gets thinner year on year.

If the BBC put out a half decent service they might actually find people would be happy to pay the licence fee for the priviledge of watching some quality TV.

Personally, I wouldn't mind some adverts if the quality was better too.

With the poor quality of TV now, I don't see any point in watching much of it at all.

If you want an example of something the BBC do very well look at their website, especially their news website.

It's fantastic, it's one of the best, most user-friendly and appealing websites I've ever visited. I like it so much, that it's my homepage.

BBC TV (with the exception of the news and Newsnight IMO) is naff, but the BBC's online presence can only be described as excellent.

The quality of their broadcasting is completely irrelevant. It is the forced bit that is messed up.

If you're talking about the cosmetic appearance/quality of the website and ease of use then I agree.

But if you're talking about the quality of the content, then I can't believe you can say that and be supposedly anti-EU at the same time.

BBC news is nothing more than imperialist propaganda fed to the masses - there is no real "reporting" anymore, it is all very carefully scripted and completely biased in favour of the establishment.
Pro-EU, pro-main political party's, anti human and providing a fake agenda at best.

My god they can't even report buildings collapsing at the right time !

It's a shame because Ofcom is usually a good regulator (well, certainly on the radio communications side whcih I deal with).

The BBC offers a wide range of content, everything from the basics of the legal system, to consumer rights, medical information the lot. A very useful beginner's guide to just about everything.

I've found BBC News to be far more accurate than both The Times and The Telegraph. I'll admit that some of it is biased, but then I find a lot of their reporting to be top notch. It's still not anything approaching 100% accurate, but it's better than the rest.
