I liked Apocalypse Now if only for the best use of Wagner and The Doors on film but just not enough for top 5 maybe in the 10

Perhaps we should really list them by category. So favourite films in:

Period Drama
War Film
Sci-Fi
Drama
Action
Comedy
Romance
Horror

g hall, have you seen the remake of Dune by the Sci-Fi channel? Not a patch on the original film, but it is longer and includes more of the book.

I thought that the Lord of the Rings films were just as I saw the book. Having listened to the radio series as well, I thought that all three versions were enjoyable.

Yes the Lord of the Rings Trilogy was excellent, the effects were amazing, type of films you can watch over again and still see parts you missed. 6th Sense was good too, I think that's the one where the kid says, "I see dead people"

Didn't it end up as a series ?
Trouble is that since Frank Herbert died his son and collaborators have extended the franchise somewhat

There was also the mix of live action and animation which did The Fellowship of the Ring and part of The Two Towers by Ralph Bakshi

Did you ever hear the album inspired by Lord of the Rings recorded by Bo Hansson

Yes, that's the one.

Serenity is the movie only available on DVD which is from the series Firefly. It has the best opening sequence I have ever seen. It's also a very critical movie against centralised Government. Anyone in UKIP would see the Government in the movie as being what the EU will become if we don't stop it.

Never heard of Serenity but as soon as I invest in a DVD player I shall seek it out. I love those kind of films, thanks for recommending it.
