Default Pope to visit Britain in September

What the HELL does this government think that it is doing, promoting Roman Catholicism in Britain and right in the midst of the abuse crisis?!!!

    Pope to visit in September

Pope Benedict XVI is to visit Britain in September, the first ever official papal trip, the government announced on Tuesday.
The September 16-19 visit, during which the 82-year-old Holy Father will be hosted by Queen Elizabeth II, is the first of any kind by a pontiff in nearly three decades.
"The papal visit represents an unprecedented opportunity to strengthen ties between the UK and the Holy See," said Scotland minister Jim Murphy, announcing the trip.
Former pope John Paul II came to Britain in 1982, but it was a pastoral trip, rather than an official visit.
In September, the pope will give a major speech in London, hold a public mass in Glasgow and beatify 19th century theologian and educationalist Cardinal John Henry Newman at a public mass in Coventry.
He will also visit the Archbishop of Canterbury -- the head of the Anglican church -- at his Lambeth Palace residence and pray with other church leaders at Westminster Abbey.

I can think of worse things to promote.

Once we get past the trolling first post

    1) This visit was announced long ago and has been talked about on this forum before, it is not new news and if we examine every post the orignator is made his/her motivations are clear.

    2) Heads of State are invted here all the time

    3) As Blazing Star points out there are worst things to promote.

I was not aware of this thread when I just opened the following thread on this subject of the great news today that the September 2010 visit of The Holy Father to the UK has been confirmed:

There is no connection between the Holy Roman Empire and the EU.

The EU ruling 'elite' might include some who give the impression of being anti-Christian in particular and anti-religious in general.

There may have been a time long ago when the Vatican might have appeared to support the EU but now there are great concerns right across the Roman Catholic Church about aspects of the EU and the direction it is taking.

    Exactly.

This will be a historic visit - the first official visit by a Pope to the UK.

The Holy Father is, as you rightly point out, RJT, a Head of State. He is most welcome here as is Her Majesty The Queen in the Vatican.

    Two great Heads of State.

I am aware of your views on this and, for you, no doubt it is great news.
I suspect that maybe a greater number will be quite underwhelmed or indifferent than those who are overjoyed.
And, no doubt, there will be some who object.

I am sure that if an opinion poll were carried out on this subject an overall majority will welcome the visit of The Holy Father to the UK in September of this year.

One or two State Visits to the UK in the past may not have received a large amount of publicity in the media - but this one will. Huge crowds of supporters of Pope Benedict 16th will gather wherever he goes during his visit to our country.

I could see that being the case in Ireland but not here in UK.
You seem to be quite adept at setting up polls here. Why not do one on this?
