Labour at war as Blair son's glamorous friend is chosen for safe seat

Bitter Labour infighting has broken out after a glamorous ex-student leader linked to Tony Blair’s son Euan was selected as the candidate for a highly prized Labour seat, Luciana Berger, 28, was chosen last week to replace Blairite MP Jane Kennedy as the party’s candidate in Liverpool Wavertree.

But union officials have lodged protests over the selection process, claiming that:

completed ballot papers were returned to the MP’s home address.

Ms Berger, now the girlfriend of junior Minister Sion Simon, was linked with Mr Blair’s son Euan after they were seen together in a Brighton nightclub during the 2004 Labour conference. Reports of a romance were denied.

Last night, the selection of the strikingly attractive Ms Berger, described on a US website as ‘a hottie’, sparked a bitter war of words within the party.
Senior Labour MP Peter Kilfoyle, 63, said: ‘There has been an operation to put this woman into the seat.’But Ms Kennedy, 51, dismissed this and said Mr Kilfoyle was ‘a tired old man’.

Father-of-three Mr Simon revealed the relationship in 2002, insisting it had started after he split with his wife Elizabeth.

The MP, who has a degenerative eye condition, said at the time: ‘Marriage breakdown is a terrible thing. (note the emotional Black mail as usual, Dont pick on me i'm going Blind) It’s been harder to deal with than going blind.’

The row over Ms Berger erupted after the former leading light in the National Union of Students beat a union-backed local councillor for the Wavertree nomina[B]tion.

Ms Berger is the beneficiary of Harriet Harman’s drive for more women MPs – the Wavertree shortlist was all women. But Ms Berger’s mother Antonia holds views that would horrify the Labour equality supremo. She once launched a light-hearted campaign to put ‘femininity back into feminism’.
She and fellow campaigners were dubbed ‘The Fluffy Club’ and ‘Fluffragettes’ because of their belief that housewives with feather dusters in hand had had a bad press.

In April 2005, Ms Berger claimed she had been spat on at a student conference for being Jewish .and resigned from the executive of the National Union of Students in protest at lack of action over anti-semitism on university campuses

Harriet Harman, the Labour deputy leader, was forced to implicate Gordon Brown deeper into the donor scandal last night as Scotland Yard was called in to investigate the affair.

Harman revealed it had been Brown's campaign coordinator who had recommended she seek a donation from the proxy of David Abrahams, the controversial businessman who has secretly bankrolled the party with £600,000.

It appears that, the more you look, the more you see.

So David Abraham’s is a very wealthy London builder, but he is clearly a very wealthy Jewish builder, Abraham's is a Jewish name, as the synagogue records clearly show. Its simple enough, who ever wins he has control of the position.
