I can't answer the poll question, Charles, because colonialism or Imperialism has nothing to do with pride and everything to do with greed. Rich elites made money, settlers merely worked hard to survive.

Most of the ordinary settlers who went to the outposts never exploited anything and certainly sent no booty home. They were ordinary farmers, artisans and business people who went there to build infrastructure and live. As they became acclimatised to their new homes they grew to love them and they formed groups that eventually began requesting a break from the ties of colonialism. Rhodesia declared UDI. South Africa declared Independence as a Republic and Australia contains many who would like to be free to build a modern state that doesn't have the welfare mentality of the old commie Britain to kill off its youth. Canada should be independent too. Eventually they all will be. You retain your ethnic bonds to homelands of origin and always help when it's needed. But you are certainly not a group of rich pigs who rape countries to send wealth home. That is a left wing fantasy.

The policy of encouraging UK citizens to become economic migrants who foisted their different cultures and beliefs onto unwilling hosts, milking them for all their assets which they then proceeded to send home, seems to me to be nothing short of scandalous.
Given that the EU is a colonial project on a grand scale where do you stand Charlie boy.

Colonisation has been something almost every nation has done in history a society expands or stagnates

Welfare states do kill off youth. It's a well known phenomenon in Australia and New Zealand. The youth become unmotivated and lack competitiveness and initiative. They languish about waiting for the state to tie their shoes and feed their unplanned offspring, look after their needs and offer someone to blame if it all goes wrong.

Americans are still sharp and entrepreneurial. I know creeping socialism is ruining the underclass but the middle class Americans are still in fine fettle. This is what saved South Africa's youth. They were born into a highly competitive, entrepreneurial atmosphere where absolutley nothing is for free and they thrived on it and became self made citizens like the Americans. Whilst the Australians and Brits were drinking themselves to death and whining about everything from the weather to the state of their ever important benefits.

    Chuck socialism. It stinks.

I am prouder of the British Empire than the Belgian, Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, French, German, Italian etc etc ones. Mange, do you know anything about those ones, or are you again just picking up on things you don't really know about?

I think it was Noal Gallagher who said without welfare Oasis would now not even exist and these boys are clearly the best band in the world over the last 15 years.

Lucky for us this country was not led by people like you at the time or we would now be come sort of third world slave state.
Instead of what we are now?

Empires never last, in a sort of geo-political karmic justice the final result is always the severe punishment of the "home nation". Nations by contrast are all but indestructible. That's why nationalism always beats imperialism, in the end.

Is that right? How come then the map of Europe just keeps reverting to its traditional form, no matter how hard psychopathic megalomaniac fascists keep trying to paint it one colour?

It does not matter if they last.
It matters if they served their purpose at the time which they did.
Besides states founded by the Empire still exist Canada and Australia for example.
Only soft politicians are letting out nations be over ran.

As for your other point I dont see Mongolian, Tibetan or Manchu Nationalism beating Chinese imperialism anytime soon.

It all a question of numbers.
