That earth was created 5,000 years ago - because a collection of writings called the Bible written 2,000 odd years ago says so. Dinosaurs died a few thousand years ago. People were created when God made them and the human race grew due to the incesteous acts of the first people.

Or the earth is billions of years old - backed up by huge amounts of scientific evidence. Dinosaurs died 65 million years ago. Life evolved from water born organisms and man evolved from monkey like creatures.
Well I used to believe the latter but after Tony Bennett's deeply insightful and informative posts on here I am leaning towards the former...

    ...not.

    ...not.
I was thinking of binning my substantial fossil collection as they are obviously a fraud!

Well, I'm still waiting for Mr Bennett to explain to me what oil is, what it is made of and how it got so deep into the earth's core.

In the meantime I will have to satisfy myself with the official (obviously fraudulent!) explanation:

Crude oil was made over millions of years from tiny plants and animals, called plankton. The plankton on the left (pic not shown) would form oil in about 150 million years time if the sea bed is not disturbed.

The plankton that lived in the Jurassic period made our crude oil.

This was the time of the dinosaurs. It was about 180,000,000 years ago.

When plankton die, they fall to the bottom of the sea.

The plankton are trapped under many layers of sand and mud. Over millions of years, the dead animals and plants got buried deeper and deeper. The heat and pressure gradually turned the mud into rock and the dead animals and plants into oil and gas.

Oil is formed over millions of years. It is held in tiny spaces in underground rock, like water in a sponge.

Some rocks have tiny spaces called pores. The rocks with these pores can hold the oil like a sponge.

The cap rock stops the oil from escaping.

Over millions of years, the rocks fold. Sometimes they form a dome shape that can catch the oil.

Oil can float up through the tiny spaces in the rock. We call these tiny spaces pores and we say that the rock is porous. This takes millions of years.

I'd also love to hear from Mr Bennett's supporters (Battydunce and co. are you recveiving me, over?) Do Mr Bennett's views on evolution seem perfectly reasonable to you? Any reason at all for rethinking your views on Mr Bennett's judgement and ability to think clearly, logically and above all rationally?

    Lies - all lies.

Pour out any oil and petrol and you notice no remains of plankton in the oil or petrol. This prooves God made oil 5,000 years ago.

Basildon Boy, I am grateful for the information concerning oil - that's another silly myth put to bed. Can you tell me why God created oil? Was it because He knew that we would one day invent the motor car and would want to have lots of wars in the Middle East?

I am fairly sure God knew there would be sibling rivalry along the way.

By the way I would like to declare that I believe that the Earth is flat

There are references to the Earth's flatness in the Bible and plenty of eminent people through the ages who can provide the necessary evidence if anyone's interested. Please check out William Carpenter's pamphlet "100 Reasons why the Earth Is Not A Globe" Hundred proofs a

And let us not forget the words of that eminent gentleman George Bernard Shaw

"We are more gullible and superstitious today than we were in the Middle Ages, and an example of modern credulity is the widespread belief that the Earth is round. The average man can advance not a single reason for thinking that the Earth is round. He merely swallows this theory because there is something about it that appeals to the twentieth century mentality".
