Default Tories Must Pledge To End Pub Smoking Ban

I've just sold my remaining shares in Punch Taverns.

This idiotic ban is strangling the licensed trade. We have to act ASAP and ban the ban

How do we go about getting rid of the ban when 60% of the population like to sit at home and know that the pub at the end of the street is smoke-free for when they go into it once a year?

Economically - they don't count.

Incidentally I prefer smoke-free pubs, but that's not the point.

Why can't there be smoking sections?

Why can't the Government let us make our own minds up.

If you want a non smoking pub then go to one. If there isn't one near you open one.

We have no right to demand pubs of the style we like.

I agree, unfortunately the smoking ban is popular with the the majority because the majority don't smoke.

The majority would probably be happy for a separate smoking room since it would not not affect them but does provide freedom of choice.

The majority want hanging brought back but they don't get their way.

Slamming down on minorities is very dangerous and causes much resentment. Fox hunting ban etc.

Hopefully the coming finacial meltdown will mean the 'non jobs' that have increased under this disastrous government will disappear and there will be no smoking cessation officers and the like to enforce such nonsense.

I agree , problem is money. My local Landlord (a smoker) claims the smoking ban has had no effect on numbers of customers. Those who wish to smoke go outside in an open yard with a roof at the end nearest the pub'. Problem is having a separate 'Pub Room' for smokers if a Pub is restricted by room availability, which is the case in many pubs. Does a separate room for smokers warrant the financial layout for a pub? In my opinion Pubs are losing customers for other reasons, (a) It's cheaper to drink at home. (b) You're more likely to be attacked by a gang of yobs late at night coming home from a pub. With today's knife culture who wants to die for a drink forgive the pun!
