Teddy Boy era was my early teens and I was still young enough to be a Mod or Rocker, (I lent towards Mods) Italian hairstyle and Italian looki liki shoes, tapered trousers and duffle coat! I always wanted a Vespa but could only afford an NSU Quickly! There were often fist fights on Sat' nights, ( I didn't get involved) 'drink in wit out', usually over some 'bird', but nobody pulled a knife, nobody got kicked to death and old people weren't looked upon as easy targets! I carried a flick knife in my early teens (a present brought back from London from a school pal of mine) but I never used it and never would, I carried it to show off to friends, but was never daft enough to take it to school!

I have only ever smoked a few fags 35 years ago and like smoke free pubs, but the ban is still, IMHO, totally wrong. If we can licence a premise to sell beer we can licence a premise to allow smoking. The councillors can grant licences to those pubs that have separate facilities for smokers within defined areas.
To be honest if a pub wants to be licenced to allow smoking throughout and the staff and the customers are aware (staff smoke as well) then that's not a problem. I will go to the pubs I prefer, as I do now, and frankly would rather see a ban on juke boxes that play rap music (loud rap on the juke box and I am gone), but it's not up to me and it shouldn't be a matter for governments either.

whereas there's no difference between the quality of beer in cans/bottles and the fizzy nitro-keg rubbish in most pubs; so it makes no difference whether you drink in the pub or in the house. |

France Germany Holland Belgium Spain Italy have and the rest have until the end of the year to comply with the instructions from the EuroBunker. In some areas where the locals have ignored the rules the thought police move in and enforce the law. Spain is being blitzed at the moment.

However this explains why your experience is so much different from that shared by most other people. Beer may be your hobby, but for most of us it's just a means to an end. And Im a lager drinker. ![]() |

I don't think the Tories will do anything about it to be honest. I had no problem with smoking pubs and I'm not a smoker myself. I agree with the sentiments expressed that if we can license places for booze why not fags?
