Yes, but giving the publicans the choice to provide a smoking room would be a step forward which is unlikely to cost the party suggesting it many votes.

The people who want to stab you only do so because they so angry about not being able to smoke in their local!

I must go to the wrong pubs, as every time I step in one it's busy.

Try going in on a Monday or Tuesday or are you one of the regulars at your local that visits once a month.

Its always been cheaper to drink at home, you are not more likely to be attacked in your day you had teddy boys with flick knives, we have had mods and rockers , skinheads and bikers and punks and mods.

It seems more dangerous because it is publicised more.

I go to the same pub every Tuesday night, and always visit one of several possible pubs at the weekend. And these aren't in the city centre, either.

You are all starting to go down the same old roads. It is simply a matter of choice.

It is also a sign of our willingness to obey stupid punitive laws.

Thats the trouble city centre pubs are suffering more than others.

Don't forget 4,700 pubs have closed since the smoking ban yet the year before only 500 closed.

We aren't talking about public places but private property.

It's not the smart pubs or 'themed' establishments with smoking gazebos that are really feeling the pinch. It's old-fashioned locals that are dying on their feet.

I sent an IM to Mark Croucher who should really be joining this discussion, but he has disappeared.
