The "top 50 achievements" of the New Labour government are cited at the party's web site here:
Labour: Labour's top 50 achievements since being elected in 1997 This is an off-the-top-of the-head response to said list: Quote:
Let's forget all about the credit crunch, the mortgage situation, and the price of everything skyrocketing as we speak, shall we? Quote:
Er no - it's on the New Labour web site as we speak. Don't THEY get told what's happening outside the Westminster Village? Quote:
Do the sweat shop Indian kiddies who supply Primark et al know about this? Quote:
Most of 'em Blunkett Bobby - cartoon cut-outs, good for a hoodie laugh but not much use otherwise Quote:
If you believe this, your name is Gordon Brown. Quote:
If you believe this your name is Napoleon and you live in a nice, self-contained rubber room in Broadmoor. Quote:
As it would have have to be when you lower the standards to the point where you get extra marks if you write "f*** off" on your exam paper. Quote:
Hurl the money at projects like Jane Lane's "even-babies-can-be- racists"-so-get-whitey-early project. Quote:
Quote:
Now how about writing 100% of the debt of the hard up British, Gordon? No? That's what I thought you'd say. Quote:
Some of these have AIDS, one or two don't know what an aspirin is and others don't think washing their hands is all that necessary. Quote:
Not so many, I guarantee. Quote:
If it's true. Quote:
The Scots got to govern themselves. Now what nationality is Gordon Brown again? And what nationality is Tony Blair? After allowing the Scots to govern themselves, The Irish Scot, Tony B Liar employed almost 50 times as many Scots in his cabinet and Ministries as he ought to have done, in respect of their incidence in the general population. I suspect wee Gordie's chauvinistic preferences aren't far short of the cited anti-English statistic. Quote:

NU-speak usually covers up some bulls*** or other. Quote:
Quote:
And New Labour is claiming this as an achievement? Quote:
All the more money for the wallet-stuffers, seeing as most students nowadays leave further education tens of thousands of pounds in debt. And if you are in the habit of watching The Weakest Link you will have noted that, in Airstrip 1 these days, most students can't add up, take away, multiply, divide or spell. Quote:
Whack the cash to the ethnic fast-breeder. That's going to make the rest of us feel a lot better. Quote:

What about this 6th runway you're planning to build at Heathrow! Quote:

Is there anyone out there who wouldn't rather have the figures the other way around? Quote:

A New Labour apparatchik wishes to quibble. Check this out, jobsworth: In February 2007, UNICEF released a report stating that the UK was the worst place in the developed world for children to grow up. Family breakdown, drink, drugs and fear of violence have left British kids 21st out of 21 in the happiness table. This despite the fact that Britain is the fourth wealthiest nation in the world. Robert Whelan of Civitas said: I have seen the evidence piling up for 20 years that married families are better for children than single parents or stepfamilies. The question is how long the Government can close its eyes to the reality. The United States ranked second bottom in this child welfare table. And yet the Blairs and the Bushes think they have the right to export their brutal vision of the perfect society to the rest of the world. Oh, and beware of words like "relative". Quote:
Quote:
Promote the botty burgler and demote heterosexual marriage. That'd be good if you're at war with a country's culture and institutions. Quote:
Whose living in these homes? Quote:
I figured my health would be better served elsewhere. Some place where there wasn't 100 sick foreigners all huddled together in a small room. I left without being checked out. I'm still here. Quote:
Adolf Hitler banned foxhunting in Germany. 15 years after he banned it, the fox was extinct in that country. Quote:
Let's get Blair and Brown to taste the water in the rivers near Sellafield, shall we? Quote:
How about free TV licences for over-65s? Quote:
Are you sure this isn't still going on? How about all these countries you trade with? Is it still happening there? Quote:
You mean it's not free for all women? Quote:
Quote:
Yeh, we know all about it. Quote:
And I bet they don't last long when the credit is really crunching. Quote:
That's how it used to be. Who changed things? Quote:
Everyone knows apprenticeship is a dark age concept. Nu Labour and the Tories have seen to that. Do you mean double as in 2 x 50 bottle-washers = 100 bottle-washers? Something like that? I suspect you do. Quote:
I didn't know this. I must partake. Quote:
More of our money for Jomo Foreigner. Quote:
Can I see the uncooked figures, please? Quote:
How about youth unemployment overall? I mean there does seem to be lots and lots and lots of surly, slit eyed hoodies knocking about in the afternoons these days. They can't all be happy night shift workers. Quote:
At the kind of nurseries where Jane Lane's little, red book instructs the childminder to look for baby racists. Quote:
How about free fruit for all our schoolkids? |

Why are people you disagree with bigots yet you as a participant in the debate are not? Since when has the term applied to a point of view rather than attitude to opposing arguments? What does the word mean to you? You see I think your intolerance of rival opinions betokens bigotry.

Excellent post Jack and some great remarks.
Ok my cynical take on the top 10 here we go....... 1. Longest period of sustained low inflation since the 60s. If inflation is calculated like it is in America and does not include basic commodities like food(like the Consumer price index does), then it is unlikely to fully explain the public's increased cost of living under added tax Labour. Could this have incrementally occured since the 60's ? 2. Low mortgage rates. Maybe so, but low interest rates also serve to create a "credit culture" and as many people have been sold mortgages and taken loans they can't afford to repay, this helps to create the credit bubble. Remember when the government should be closing the door on credit and raising rates to stop people borrowing, they tend to do the opposite and lower them to achieve "growth" which indirectly means people borrow even more and add to the debt they already owe making the bubble bigger and bigger(look at the U.S bringing down interest rates !) And no mention of a depressing number of repossesions out of those mortgages taken up of course.... 3. Introduced the National Minimum Wage and raised it to £5.52. How much has the pound devalued in this time ? I'll give them this one, but no doubt they get it all back through additional numbers of taxes on absolutely everything. And the recent 10p tax rate change that affects the poorest of course. Nice one Gordon. 4. Over 14,000 more police in England and Wales. Yet we still can't bobby's on the beat or get the police to repond in a timely manner for a burglary or serious incident. They're either sat in the office or boosting their performance related pay by hitting government targets and nicking unsuspecting motorists. Not to mention the awful quality of policing and the emerging police state. Does this figure include PCSO's too I wonder ? 5. Cut overall crime by 32 per cent. This surely must be boll*cks. But of course crime figures are generally unreliable anyway as they only are based on reported crime. If the public lose faith in the police(surely not ? ) then more crimes could effectively be unreported and the government can say "Crimes gone down". 6. Record levels of literacy and numeracy in schools. I could have sworn I have been watching news reports over the last few years about the poor state of numeracy and literacy in schools ? Of course there is no suggestion that the government might have dumbed down the examination process to bolster success rates either.... 7. Young people achieving some of the best ever results at 14, 16, and 18. See 6. 8. Funding for every pupil in England has doubled. Maybe ? Is this merely "teaching materials" or infrastructure of schools(as prisons ?) and government propaganda materials and their new schools building programme ? And if funding has doubled per head, why are class sizes bigger and there is a smaller ratio of teachers to pupils ? Again it's all about value for money and the Tories do have a better record on that issue than Labour I think. (at least, but I still detest them too) Maybe I'm wrong though.... 9.Employment is at its highest level ever. Partially due to the large rise in foreign workers, it does not take into account the number of "skilled" professions, job security or levels of pay. I'll give them that one too but expect unemployment to continue to rise with the "bust" phase of the credit crunch too however. 10. Written off up to 100 per cent of debt owed by poorest countries. Is this actually true ? I was under the impression they had wiped the debt off by re-selling them to other private financial firms who made the situation only get worse under new loan agreements. Wasn't that on the news a few years ago ? I need to research more on this one.

It is bigotry because it is discrimination based on complete nonsense, ignorance and dishonesty. He made nonsensical, ignorant and untrue comments about immigrants to try and make his points. That is bigotry in my book. I'm for cutting immigration but I still don't think bigoted comments against immigrants are needed.

Well, I had a warning but if you look closely I meant libertarianism leads to such as paedophilia. But I made created the wrong impression by mentioning names and for that I apologise.
