News: Detentioned for Not Praying to Allah!

On 4 July 2008, Karen Williams, the parent of an 11-year-old child attending Alsager High School, Stoke-on-Trent, was quoted thus in The Daily Mail:

I am absolutely furious MY DAUGHTER WAS MADE TO TAKE PART in it and I don't find it acceptable… Not only did they have to pray, the teacher had gone into the class and made them watch a short film and then SAID 'WE ARE NOW GOING OUT TO PRAY TO ALLAH'.

THEN TWO BOYS GOT DETENTION AND ALL THE OTHER CHILDREN MISSED THEIR REFRESHMENT BREAK BECAUSE OF THE TEACHER. NOT ONLY WAS IT FORCED UPON THEM, MY DAUGHTER WAS TOLD OFF FOR NOT DOING IT RIGHT…

MY CHILD HAS BEEN FORCED TO PRAY TO ALLAH IN A SCHOOL LESSON.

Sharon Luinen, another parent, added:

The grandfather of one of the pupils said:

IF MUSLIMS WERE ASKED TO GO TO CHURCH ON SUNDAY AND TAKE HOLY COMMUNION THERE WOULD BE WAR.

A statement from Cheshire County Council on behalf of the school said this:

Hmmm.
If the school did in fact force them to pray then that is wrong and, I believe, against the law.

There are 2500+ established religions. Children would be confused if they were all taught. At the last census 70% of the UK population defined themselves as Christian. That religion, which has branches in every village in the country, should be the one that is taught.

Even when we had school assemblies those whose religion caused a moral dilemma were allowed to remain outside the religious part - we had several Jews and RCs at our school.

Are Muslim children compelled to recite the Nicene Creed in Cheshire? Pound to a pinch of salt they aren't.

Schools also serve Halal meat to our children too to cater for the Muslim children, apparently, it makes things easier for the cooks. Not easier for animal welfare though, the poor animals suffer terribly. Halal should be banned, RSPCA???

No it shouldn't be banned, you are trying to use the state to enforce your religious beliefs and biases. It isn't very cruel, they are killed quickly still. It is certainly far better than hunting and I don't think that should be banned.

Anyway I don't really belief this. It is in the Mail after all. It might as well be Fox news.
