Default PC Help please!!

I use MSN to to chat with and I've been told I've a virus that
uses my MSN addy and creates a URL addy to the same virus
on the MSN chat page of the person I'm talking to..i.e.
Lets say my addy is whatever@ hotmail.com what will appear
on the recipients screen is www followed by whatever.com
as a clickable link when I type a message. So as they trust
me and recognise the addy they'll click the link and then infect
their PC too.
Has anyone heard of this/had the same problem? And if so, how
can I get rid of it?
I'm using Windows XP family edition and run Kaspersky AV
Many thanks, Nick.

Stop using MSN messenger. There are alternatives that work with the MSN service.

Better yet stop using Windows. What's this anti-virus thing you speak of?

Take a look at » How to Remove MSN Virus Project 1/ Generic2.EXO / Backdoor.Generic3.SAT - Technibble - A Resource for Computer Repair Technicians & to get PC tech support help. and see if those instructions work. What's the name of the virus/trojan?

Alternatively, use Trend Micro's Housecall scanner (takes ages, but can be useful for spotting the newer malware/trojans): Trend Micro HouseCall - Free Online Virus and Spyware Scan - Trend Micro UK

If you post more details, I'll see what else I can suggest.
