If VED were reduced to that actually spent on the upkeep of the British roads it would only be a few quid.

If VED WAS reduced to the actual amount spent, then other taxes would have to rocket.

Here's a radical idea - cut public spending.

As Westcountryman stated, we should cut spending.

With some libertarian and decentralist economic policies such as a land value tax which help disperse property and help most to own productive property and land then far less spending will be needed.

Cut spending by all means, to start with bring in a “work for your hand out’s” scheme. After all, if EU immigrants will come in to Britain and find and take work then our great unwashed should be made to do those same jobs.

It’s enough to make a cat laugh, we pay our own to sit on their backsides and we pay again for immigrants to do the work that needs doing.

Then there’s all the other “benefits”, actually as I read elsewhere and immediately resonated with, it’s moved on from redistribution of wealth, bad enough goodness knows, now it’s redistribution of wages.

Land tax to disperse property? Property can be dispersed already by it being sold. Why should someone be taxed on a thing they own? If people want to own property then let the earn, save, and buy it. Anything else would be theft.

Not a land tax, a land value tax of the Georgist style. It is already collected anyway but just today by private landlords and businesses on ordinary tenants and workers who benefit from the produce of society and nature.

And there is no natural rights of property so it is not theft unless you'd like to show how current property systems are natural. It would be alot better for all if property was more dispersed and most were more independent and their was fewer and smaller accumulations of economic power just in the same way as political power needs to be dispersed.

I completely agree. Litter picking and cleaning graffiti would be a great start.

No! I want the people who are caught throwing litter or causing graffiti, to be sentenced to a period of picking up litter and cleaning off graffiti, or if they can afford it to pay a heavy fine to cover the cost of a paid worker doing it, then the paid work could come from the work shy ranks!
