Interesting comparison between USA and the UK (YouGov)

This was sent to me in the latest YouGov newsletter:

It makes for very interesting reading and in some cases there are marked differences in attitude.

I found the first question interesting which shows that 28% of Brits do not consider themselves naturally Lab/Con/LD - not sure what Independent in US means, whether it is exactly what it says and that it is perfectly acceptable. If this is the case - probably the ideal base for a democracy.

As A says - helps a lot in policy development, if a party hopes to be successful.

Brits have certainly become non believers in a big way compared to US.

Good to know that people are pessimistic about Britain - perhaps this will help push through reform.

Although, it is sad to note that many more in Britain think it is okay to curb liberties to stop terrorists.

AFAIK, in the US you have to register who you're going to vote for. "Independents" are essentially floating voters who're not solidly GOP or Dem, not proper independents as we understand the term - i.e. they're still going to vote GOP or Dem, they just haven't told the powers that be which way they're going to vote yet.

In which case only 5% might vote outside the big two compared to 28% outside the big three in Britain.
