This comes up every year. No, it does not. It's logo is perfectly acceptable, quite striking and fairly well known.

If UKIP decides that it's brand is harmful, not useful, then we should rebrand everything. Until then, we should stick with what we have.

I can see both sides, but in the long term we are going to need a major re-brand. So the question is really should that happen sooner or later?

Why do we need a rebrand?

Are you serious? While UKIP has been in the past the most effective counter to the UK's deepening participation in the EU project, and its cause of parliamentary democracy and UK independence is ... second only to that of the Free England Party (!) ... yet there has been scandal after scandal involving the senior leadership and the party is not electorally credible at all.

UKIP needs to have a drastic re-think asap. Once UKIP loses some/most of its MEPs in June 2009, the resources available to the party for a re-brand will shrink quickly.

UKIP therefore has a window for a fundamental review of strategy, name, tactics etc. Miss the opportunity and the baton passes to another party.

I could note plenty of detailed points, but the key change would be UKIP taking the lead in pushing for an English Parliament and England's exit from the EU, the breaking of the Union (as in UK) and the creation of good and efficient and harmonious inter-government dealings within the former UK.

The Union Parliament and the professional political class - IMHO - have lost all moral authority. Time to change.

UKIP has to move quickly or will become history. If UKIP really think it does not need to change radically, it shows what a closed world your members live in. I do not want to be rude to any of you guys, but the above is how I see it.

Default A post-script!

When I used to leaflet for UKIP, I often got a number of blunt comments about the party from members of the public... such as "Is UKIP a respectable party?".

I was out leafletting today for the Free England Party and although I only spoke to a few people, I got a 100% positive response to my platform of English independence.

One elector really surprised me. I went up to his front door to drop a leaflet and it coincided with him coming out of the door. He came up to me, looked at my party badge, and said he has just voted for me on the postal vote. He gave me his name and his job (a London fireman). I was astonished: the party has only existed since February; I have until recently handed out no leaflets whatsoever, we have no other members within miles etc.

The above is true anecdotal evidence from today and obviously not in any way, a proper poll.

But my growing conviction ... is that the English are starting to recognise their national identity and are totally fed up with both Unions.

What UKIP really needs is to be professional, stop the amateurish stunts, stop MEPs from boarding the EU gravy train, stop illegal activity within the Party (Tom Wise, Ashley Mote etc) and stop hypocrisy (campaigning for Independence but accepting the principle of subsidiarity?). And that's just for starters.

In my opinion the UKIP should abandon the ludicrous idea of pulling out of the EU and instead concentrate on ensuring that Britain gets the best from where we are and from where in MY opinion our options are down to one.

Get as up close and personal as possible within the EU, and fight our corner tooth and nail.
