I tend to stay out of other people's temporary disagreements as in my experience they're bum chums the following week.

YCHTT, the internet will never be banned in this country, I'm certain of that. If they did attempt it, they'd have a very angry naked lady protesting on the roof of the house of parliament.

It's not all doom and gloom..... I love the net, I love the fact that I can tap in anything of interest and learn about it. Information at your fingertips is indeed a godsend. I love the fact that I can find original historical documents, I love the fact that I don't need to buy a paper anymore and I love the fact that television no longer interests me (well apart from ashes to ashes and scrubs). Instead of watching the telly I now learn something new every day.

I think where I went wrong was using the net as a form of escapism, if somebody uses drugs or alcohol for the same reason then they have a problem too.

I am pleased that internet addiction is being recognised though. It's the same with anything, there is use and abuse; I don't see this gov't banning alcohol..............................YET!

It's hard to believe the internet could be banned in this country, but then again I never thought smoking would be banned in public either.

But actually it's important to realize it doesn't need to be completely banned in order for it to be taken away from you....

What if information was cut off from you and you were forced to use the "slow lane" in the form of "internet 2" to access it at the discretion of your ISP ?

You would still have the internet, but you wouldn't be able to access half of the stuff you do today.
Please watch the videos if you haven't already - they explain it better than me.

I love the internet for the same reasons as yourself - there's so much information, it is truly a medium of choice and personal expression for everyone.

I especially like youtube too !
It could be youtube is one of the sites threatened though - for example people may no longer be able to post their own videos up to the web

It is certainly true that America is more under threat than Europe, as we speak, but steps are already being taken to eradicate it over there, and there are discussions in media and on TV that the same should happen here too.

It may not very long before we follow suit - 5 to 10 years at a guess, but maybe even less. In short they are moving as fast as they can to shut down all realms of free speech and expression - yes I know it sounds crazy but that's how censorship and propaganda works - just look at Google and China !

If you see so called "bloggers" demonized in our mainstream you will know why.

At least if we raise awareness of the issue now we can do more to stop it from ever happening for all our liberties sakes.

Of course it's not all doom and gloom - like life, the internet is incredible and totally superb, but even more reason to fight for it's protection and longevity for all our sakes, not just large corporations and government.

You have to realise that when people say things about danger and threats out there they are referring to the big picture and forces at large, not individuals like you. How could you be of any consequence as a threat to anyone?

I know that now you are on the road to Frith bashing there is little I can do to stop you, but one last time, I am not referring to you personally but to a-holes out there with idiot web sites who are cashing in on vulnerable people and to politicians and to religious mindbenders and to people who are killing the environment.
