But see, ballet, I could get into that. If there was comfortable seating. I'm not talking Lay-Z-Boy spec, but just enough to actually not have a numb backside for the next 24 hours.

Any opinion on such matters?
I found the seating perfectly comftable.

There was a joke read out by Mike Mendoza on Talksport radio just after 1 am this morning: "Why do they want to turn McClaren into a pumpkin?"

And the answer is - "So that he can become a coach".

Default London, Central Line, underground trains, Derby buses, National Exhibition Centre

In reply to John's posting (number 9 in this thread):

When you are next in London, John, try the seating in one of the newer Central Line underground trains - a good example of how not to make seating on trains (they are not at all comfortable). The trains they replaced were much better in that way. That's "progress" for you.

I also remember the seats on the buses ran by Derby City Council were very hard, too. Maybe they have improved them since then.

As for the National Exhibition Centre (NEC), John - have you thought of writing a letter to them pointing out that you were not happy with the seating? An informal (i.e. not an official complaint) letter might have some effect. At some point they are going to have to start replacing the seating they have and now might be a good time that they became aware that not everyone is entirely happy with the type they have now.

I see that both England and Scotland have dropped one place on the FIFA world rankings for November. England are now 12th and Scotland are now 14th.

Default Scotland, European Football Cup, English, Denmark, World Cup, television

It has been a long, long time since Scotland did anything that dramatic in football.

As a result we have shot up the rankings to 13th in the world according to FIFA in October.
I spoke with a friend of mine (who, like me, is English) over the telephone after news of Scotland's exit from the qualification stage of the European Football Cup came through and we both expressed our disappointment that Scotland would not be in the competition next time.

However, Denmark (which, as you know, Smidgey, has a population about the same as that of Scotland) managed to win the European Football Cup in 1992 - and I am sure that Scotland can, one day, win it too (and the World Football Cup as well).

It is a great pity that no part of the UK will be in the next European Football Cup. Apart from the economy not getting the £2 billion boost that participation in the competition would have brought - I should imagine that ITV and the BBC are also very disappointed because they now lose the opportunity to boost their viewing figures with coverage of the whole event.

I can't imagine there being a great deal of interest in the UK in the next European Football Cup now that it is starting to look like an entirely continental competition.

I wasn't aware that Scotland's ranking was so high. I said to a friend only the other day that we should not underestimate Scotland's football team (we agreed).

This very point was quoted by a reporter on a news bulletin I watched yesterday evening.

England not being in the next European Football Cup really is very bad news.

Someone told me that Michael Owen and at least one other important England footballer were injured and unable to play in the game against Croatia earlier this week.

This must also be a factor in the result of that game.
