An AA source has told the BBC traces of silicon, which should not be in unleaded petrol, have been found in tests carried out by the petroleum industry.
There ya go.
There ya go nuthin' young fellow.
All much too vague to draw any serious conclusions.
An AA source.......so unofficial and no hard evidence. So no better than uninformed opinion.
Found in tests.......fine.
When?
Where did the tested petrol come from?
Were the results reported?
If so, to whom?
If not, why not?
Was any action taken?
If so, what was it?
If not, why not?
Is it in any way related to the current reported problems?

More questions than answers...............

You really have a problem with reading newspapers/sites and extrapolating information from them, don't you Bes? When I'm PM shall I appoint you "Minister For Standards And Clarity In Media Reporting"?

As far as I'm concerned, Jade Goody is in possession of the definitive uninformed opinion. So when it comes to vehicle-related stuff, that makes the AA better than an uninformed opinion any day of the week.

Really, go read HYS. I got to about page 48 and the stories are mostly all the same... ...filled up at Tesco or Morrisons, car died within 48 hours. That tells me that there's a problem.

What're you driving? I understand that has some bearing on the matter.

It is affecting modern engines with oxygen sensors, the oxygen sensor cuts the engine because it senses irregularities due to the silicon content.

The bad publicity does not seem to be affecting the sales. In fact there was a long line of cars waiting to fill up last night at Morrisons.

You mean I am not very good at jumping to unfounded conclusions?
When the analysis of the fuel is published today we should have some facts.
And it may well be that there was contamination in some fuel.
Until then, there is just anecdotal evidence.
